Hello folks, I'm interested in having a frame built and would appreciate some comments on the frame builders I'm considering. First, the frame won't be a conventional one. I'm interested in an alloy frame, built for touring, not racing. Since I'm 4'2", have an 18" inseam, and want 22-24" tires on the thing, the geometry may end up being strange. I'm considering Peter Mooney, Ben Serotta, or Harry Havnoonian. Anyone have any comments, suggestions, or recommendations? /Sam

I have seen some odd sizes that Peter has done, but I would be quite surprised if you get him to work with any kind of aluminum materials. Is that what you meant by "alloy"? You might do better with any of these builders if you told them what you wanted to do with the bike, and let them choose the materials. It is a complicated subject. John Wasser (moderator of this conference) knows Ben Serotta. Maybe he can give you some advice when he returns from Africa. Scott (Still using Anne's account) | |||||

Dave Hartranft built my streamliner frame: 20" front wheel, 24" rear, 94" wheelbase, 3 bottom brackets, etc. He should be able to handle your project. He's not cheap, though! He's at 259-8475. I know of good tires/wheels in 20" and 24" (and even 17" Moultons with surprisingly low rolling resistance). I don't know of any good 22" set-ups. - Chris |
