770.0. "Catalogue stores" by GENRAL::MCCLUREH (Heidi McClure, Colorado Springs) Wed Jul 13 1988 10:28

I'd like to find out the phone numbers for any catalogue stores
    that I don't have . . . . I have Nashbar and Performance. I really
don't even know if there are any other good catalogue stores around!

I have an REI catalog (Recreational Equipment Inc). I've never ordered
anything from them, and I've only seen their catalogue for bicycle
    equipment.

There catalog request lines are as follows:
    	REI Adventures travel catalog 1-800-622-2236
REI gear and clothing catalog 1-800-426-4840
    	Info about mail order 1-206-575-1009
Toll free number for ordering 1-800-426-4840

My catalog is called Cycle Source, but there isn't a number listed
to call for more. Maybe one of the other numbers could help.

I also noticed that they have a store in Denver, though I have no
idea how far that is from you. It's located at 2200 W. Almeda Ave
    @ Alameda Square.

You use the FAX number to FAX your order in.

For times when Federal Express isn't fast enough.

I just recently received Cycle Good's ctalog "The handbook of
cycl-ology". This catalog is great. They have lots of stuff that
is not in Performance or Nashbar.

They include technical information, and sell replacement parts for
many components. They have expoded views (of derailleurs etc) in
case you want to order small parts. They even sell good tubing,
lugs etc in case you want to build your own frame. They sell good
bikes, some in the several thousand dollar range. They sell clothing,
    tools, and accessories as well.

Several years ago, these guys were #1 in the bike catalog business.
They have not kept up with the times however. They publish very
few catalogs. They do not put the prices in the catalog, instead
you have to cross reference the item to a price list. And it is
tough to get a catalog, you have to send in $1 through the mail.
I sent in my buck last summer, called about 6 weeks later to see
if they sent the catalog. I was told that it takes two to three
months to get the catalog because they use cheap bulk mail. About
6 weeks later I called again and was told that they are out of their
catalog and would send me one as soon as the next eddition is printed.
I finally received mine this spring.

I like the selection, prices seem about right. Some things are
cheaper, others more expensive than other catalog companies. I
would recommend ordering thier catalog. I havn't ordered anything
from them yet. They have an 800 number and will ship fedx and 2
    day air.

770.6Parts/Tools: The Third HandEAGLE1::CAMILLISun Jul 17 1988 20:055
	The Third Hand (Box 212; Mt. Shasta, CA 96067 / (916) 926-2600)
has a good selection of parts and tools. They're not particularly
cheap (but who has obscure bicycle tools cheap?), but they have
	a lot of hard-to-find items.

Hey good that you mentioned them, I've called them
when I was getting some wheels made and they were
terrific to work with. They are cyclists and don't
mind talking about a problem and are not pushy as
    the other cat. companys are.
