725.0. "CHAIN FALLING OFF" by NRPUR::TRUDEAU () Tue Jun 14 1988 12:13

HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH PEUGOT BIKES? ...MORE SPECIFICALLY
THEIR MOUNTAIN BIKES? I JUST BOUGHT ONE WITH SHIMANO DEORE COMPONENTS
AND AM HAVING DIFFICULTY WITH THE CHAIN FALLING OFF WHEN CHANGING
TO THE LARGEST GEAR, WHICH DOESN'T CHANGE VERY SMOOTHLY OR QUICKLY.
SINCE IT IS NEW AND I HAVEN'T DONE ALOT OF RIDING I'M HOPING THAT
IT JUST NEEDS ADJUSTING. IT WAS ALREADY ADJUSTED AFTER ABOUT 50
    MILES...HOPE I DIDN'T BUY A LEMON.

[I'm assuming you are having problems with your front derailler,
but the process for the rear derailler is identical]

This sounds more like a problem with the front derailler adjustment
than the manufacturer of the frame. My guess is that the min/max
adjustment screws aren't set quite right on your bike. With a Phillips
screwdriver and a few minutes of trying you should be able to solve
the problem. Just keep tightening down the adjustement screw until
the chain stops falling off while shifting.

Thanks Rob! I visited my friendly neighborhodd bike shop (The Broken
Spoke, Hudson, MA) yesterday and he said the very same thing. He
is going to adjust it for me Sunday. I love problems with simple
    answers!!

It's really a pretty straight-forward adjustment on most gear
sets / derailleurs. You should probably learn to do it by
yourself, especially if you want to ride this week.
