I was wondering the last few days why my 6 week old SIS system I installed on my mountain bike seemed to run so rough. The chain has been getting regular soaks in the oil, and still is in good shape, and then I noticed tonite when I went to clean my freewheel that the last 2 cogs had most of there teeth missing. (I suspect that is my major problem) Having but 6 weeks of experience with Deore-xt SIS stuff, I was wondering if anyone else had similar problems destroying teeth on a newer shimano cogs. (Last freewheel lasted 2 winters before I broke many teeth) Does anyone care to guess if maybe I got some defective cogs, or do all shimano freewheels do that. [Or am I just an animal on a bike?] Robb....who should buy mountain bike parts in bulk...:(

Do you shift while pedaling hard? That can be very abusive to your chain and gears. If not, maybe it was just a case of defective equipment. Mike | |||||

My guess is faulty goods, I have used Shimano Deore (not XT) parts on my MTN bike for over a year now with no real problems. I always ride in the dirt and do my best to abuse the bike at every opportunity.................. Try speaking to your friendly shimano stockist Paul |
