631.0. "BIANCHI SPORT SX" by OTOFS::DONELY () Sat Apr 23 1988 21:48

Well,it's time to start looking for a new Bick. I've had a Peugeot
10 Speed since the Spring of 1972 and it's done me well (I bought it
for $50 in France at this time). I'm looking at about $150 Canadian
to tune it back into shape.
I've been looking at the "Bianchi Sport SX" which retails in Canada for
$585. I've been offered this Bick for $499 from a reputable Bick Shop
in town. They also offered me $60 for a trade-in if I wished on my old
Peugeot. It might be worth selling on the Open Market myself or keeping
it for memories (It is in pretty good shape for it's age).
Has anyone heard anything about this flavour of Bianchi. It comes with
SHIMANO SIS Derailers and what appears to be a good braking system. The
tires are a low profile type much like they use in racing. I've requested
a slightly larger tire as my interest is in City/Bicycle Path Riding.
I read in a earlier note file that some of these models are made in
Japan. I think that this one in particular might be a Japanese Model.
Is there a Problem with the Japanese Product??
Also, I'm curious to find out what this Bike sells for in the United
States?

Thanks,Greg

    Greg,

I've just gotten off the line with my local bike shop, we talk
a little about the Bianchi Sport SX. He has in stock several early
1988's with the 4 crown and fork blade for $446. He says the late
1988's have a unicrown blade with cost $479.
He also told me that Bianchi doesn't make a Sport SX in Italy.
There all made in Japan. He has one 1987 Sport SX for $389 down
    from $429.
If you want more info. on these bikes, give him a call at

    		(401) 765-3275 his name is Paul
    	Address: A.A. Vittorio Cycle
    		   Wood Avenue
    		 Woonsocket, R.I. 02895

Tell him you know me. (because he gives me better prices...)

    			Good Luck and happy trails...

Considering the difference in exchange rates, $499CDN doesn't
sound like an unreasonable price. Considering the hassles
of importing the bike to Canada from the US after it was imported
here from Japan, I'm not sure that buying from a dealer in
Rhode Island if you live in Canada (OTO==Ottawa, Ontario) is
        a viable proposition.

I picked up the Bianchi Sport SX last night and it was the
88 Model with the Unicrown Forks ($499 CAN. Approx $385 U.S.)
Unfortunately I haven't had a chance to ride it very much as
the weather hasn't been cooperative. Supposed to be a nice weekend though.

                            Thanks for your replies ,Greg
