597.0. "ROTTOM '88" by CHEAPR::NORTON () Wed Mar 30 1988 10:20
It's time for ROTTOM '88!! If you weren't around for the last one
(ROTTOM '85) here's what it's all about:
ROTTOM stands for Ride Over The Top Of Massachusetts. It's a ride from
Princeton to Mt. Greylock, a total of about 80 miles each way. This year,
ROTTOM is scheduled for May 21-23.
In '85, Gary Miller (he's the one responsible for this ride), a couple of
his friends and I made an attempt on ROTTOM. For various reasons, we never
even saw Mt. Greylock, but a few of us had a great time.
Gary wanted a good excuse for not riding this year, so he has volunteered
to drive a sag wagon so we don't have to carry our gear up all those hills.
I'll make reservations at a campground in Ashfield, which is about 65 miles
from Princeton.
On Saturday, May 21, we'll ride from Princeton to Ashfield. On Sunday, we
go to Mt. Greylock and probably hike up. The road is supposed to be pretty
well hacked up for biking. Gary has volunteered to stay at the bottom to
make sure we all get down safely. Both Saturday and Sunday we'll stay at
the same campground. Monday we ride back to Princeton.
This is a beautiful ride, but VERY hilly. If you'd like to come or if you
have questions, let me know, or talk to Gary at HPSVAX::MILLER.
