586.0. "Wheel flex a problem on trainer??" by CIMAMT::CHINNASWAMY () Thu Mar 24 1988 07:42

While riding my new magnetic wind trainer the other night, I looked back
and noticed that my rear wheel was swaying back and forth about 1/2". This
accured even though the bike was supported near the crank housing. Is this
common for a good bike? My bike is a Fuji Team and the wind trainer is a
nashbar magnetic. I would assume some flexing but not that much. I did crash
on the bike last year but had it checked out at a bike shop where they said it
was fine. Should I worry or should I not? 8^)

1/2" seems to be about the wobble I get on my bike/trainer combo...

1/2 an inch is not uncommon, if you were to concentrate on efficient
spinning, and try to minimize the pumping, you may find that the
    wobble goes away.

    agreement with .2

I noticed the same thing on my set up,but when I concentrated
on spinning it became minimal..Is your T-bar clamp installed ???

Yes it is. I guess I should concentrate a bit more because the most
deflection accurs right when I am on the down stroke of either pedal motion.

thanx for relieving my worries.

586.5I don't "DO" training stands, but have opinions to shareMENTOR::REGKeep left, except when not passingFri Mar 25 1988 10:2615

Another vote for spinning, keep it at a minimum of 90, aim for
100+, not just for a dozen strokes but the full time you're on the
    bike.

Well, I s'pose I'm obligated to put in my traditional plug
for rollers again. This is part of the package with stationary
trainers (not that rollers go anywhere). One is able to clamp the
bike down, pick a high gear and grunt on it without having to pay
any attention to balance or smoothness, no wonder the frame can
    flex.
