I've been looking for a Thule rack for my car. The problem I've been having is this, the stores that carry the 1050 model say the 1060 isn't any better and the stores that carry only the 1060 say it's a better design (more secure on roof). What gives ? Can anyone please help ? Thanks, MaxH

From the Performance catalog it looks like the 1050 has higher towers and longer rails than the 1060. It also costs about $5 more. They say it is for vehicles with a higher arched roofline (like a van). The 1050 is 65" wide and will hold 5 bikes. The 1060 is 50" wide and will hold 3 bikes. The model for gutterless roofs is 1061.

Higher towers also allow a sunroof to open with the rack in place. w

CORRECTION to 533.3. I read some info on Thule last night and the 1060 is a newer disigned 1050. they are both designed for cars with gutters, however the 1060 will fit narrow gutters like the '87-'88 Camry. The 1061 is for cars that need a specially designed bracket, and there is a bracket that hooks under a rain gutter or the ridge of the roof if there is no rain gutters, such as a Camaro. Dave |
