475.0. "Boston Bicycle Service makes House Calls" by LEDS::LIPSON () Wed Sep 23 1987 02:31

I just had two bikes tuned up by "Boston Bicycle Service", and I'd like to
recommend them.

Their approach is rather unique - rather than have to drag
your bike into the shop and be left with a difficult trip home - these
people actually come to your house to pick up the bike, then drop it
off when its done. [I'm sure this applies only to people within some
reasonable radius.]

In the usual case, they pick it up in the morning (8-9AM) time
frame and drop it off in the evening (5-6PM) timeframe. In my case
they picked up one morning, and dropped off the next. They don't
do pick-up/delivery on Saturdays.

They're a small outfit, and their prices are very reasonable
($25 ($20 "special") for a tune-up including the "house call" - they charge
extra for needed parts - any accessories or parts installed during the tune-up
labor is free). They also have a small selection of bikes and other
things. I would imagine once they get their business off the ground they'll
have a larger selection of parts and accessories on hand.

The other thing I like about them is they weren't upset about installing
things I had bought elsewhere - their charge for that was very reasonable.

Boston Bicycle Service, 17 Hawkins St. Somerville Ma. 02143
666-8333 - "emergency service" 579-3701. If you want to visit them they're
just outside of Union Square in Somerville. Get on Washington St. and they're
a block up from the light at the edge of Union Square - in the building
just before the bridge. I think their hours are 9-12,1-5 during the week and
9-5 on Saturdays.
