I've read most of the cycling mags and "Bicycling Magazine" clearly
stands above the rest for best overall coverage of the sport. It seems
that every issue has articles that interest me.

Although I don't race myself, I suscribe to the Velo-News for the
best racing coverage. This is in newspaper format, and has excellent
coverage of all the big races. Also, It lists most of the USCF
and some citizen racing schedules throughout the country.

    Regards,
    Denis

BIcycling Magazine for best general coverage

Cyclist for the sheer joy of cycling. Makes me want to hit the
    road (but not literally)

| | "Bike Tech" for the engineer in you. It's slim, but the
information is really useful to the technically minded. (Really,
how many pages of Bicycling magazine contain the info that makes
buying the magazine worth while? 5? 10? The rest is just mildly
interesting and/or advertising.) It's put out by the Bicycling
    magazine people. - Chris

"WINNING bicycle racing illustrated" has a lot of european races
and pro results as well as interviews with top pro cyclists male
    and female.
I hate going any more than a few weeks without a "fix" of this
    magazine.

| 470.5 | Mountain Bike Magazines ? | MIST::IVERSON | There's a seeker born every minute | Thu Sep 17 1987 17:08 | 12 |
| | I would like to know what Mountain Bikers are using as a source
    of information (if any:-).

Are there any MB specific magazines that are worth a subscription
or are you relying on general bicycling magazines' special columns
and articles? Do any of the general bicycling magazines cover MB's
    better?

I also agree with "Bike Tech" being an excellent source of info
    for technical cycling.

| 470.6 | Try Bicycle Guide | DPDMAI::SMITH | The Solitary Cyclist - PBP Finisher | Fri Sep 18 1987 09:13 | 9 |
| | I enjoy Bicycle Guide. It got started by a bunch of folk from Bicycling
who got fed up with the stodgy attitude of the place and constant
reworking of old themes, e.g., help for Alpine gearing. It has a
good attitude, good writers and reviewers, and it seems like the
people are having fun. The down-side of the mag is it seems almost
everyone on the staff is 6 feet+. It seems as though ever frame
the test is at least 60cm. Oh, well...

Gary,
I see by your personal name that you're a PBP finisher. This year? How
'bout a story?

There was Bicycle Rider magazine (claiming to be "The Grand
Touring Magazine" for the first three issues)... The first
issue came out in early 1985. It originally concentrated on
places to tour (lots of glossy photos.), how to tour, etc.,
but within the last year it drifted more toward equipment,
	like many other magazines. (ZZZZZ.)
The last issue apparently came out in July, 1987. No mention of
what happened, but BR subscriptions automatically turned into
Bicycle Guide subscriptions. (Bicycle Guide now has a note in
the corner of the cover that says, "Now including Bicycle Rider".)
And the Bicycle Guide editor just welcomed "Bicycle Rider's
	former readers".
Does anybody know what happened to Bicycle Rider?

| 470.9 | Mountain Biking | COOKIE::MUNNS | dave | Thu Dec 21 1995 15:53 | 9 |
| | Don't forget the pubescent 'Mountain Biking' rag for gobs more
equipment coverage. They seem to specialize in articles that
result in reader letters - which they publish to beef up each issue.
'Sex on the trails', Crazy surveys, ... The college-aged kids must
    love this stuff.

I like the travel adventure stories and find all those $1000+ mtb's
reviews quite boring. Frame fit and being in shape is what really
counts. The rest is minuscule detail.

Excellent magazine for hardcore riders. Lots of reviews of the
best places in the world to ride a mountainbike. Reviews of the
latest serious bikes including some real slatings - these guys
give the good and the bad. Storys by those who've made the rides.
Excellent humour spread thoughout, and definately targeted at a no
nonsense audience. These guys love to ride. The racing aspects
of mountainbiking don't fill the pages. Five page reviews of the
latest brake blocks will not be found. But, man will you find
inspiration to ride, the photographs are just amazing.

Try an issue. It's comes out 8 times a year though, so you'll
    have to wait until march.
