450.0. "HILLS, HILLS, AND MORE HILLS!" by CHEAPR::NORTON () Tue Sep 01 1987 14:01

    There's a really great ride that I'd like to do on September 12
    (or September 13 if it rains on the 12th).

    It's a revision of a ride from SHORT BIKE RIDES IN GREATER BOSTON
    AND CENTRAL MASS. According to the book, it's a 30-mile loop starting
    and ending in No. Brookfield. I'd like to customize it a little
    and make it a 60-mile loop starting from my house in Princeton.

    It's such a pretty ride, you won't even notice the killer hills.
    Hopefully, in a couple of weeks we'll have enough foliage to make
    it even prettier. So here's the plan:

    Meet at my house in time to be ready to LEAVE at 9:30. We'll ride
    the 15 miles to Barre where we pick up the real ride. The real
    ride goes through New Braintree, No. Brookfield, and a bunch of
    other pretty towns. Then we go back through Barre back to Princeton.

    My house is on Route 31 in Princeton, 2 miles south of the center
    of town where Routes 62 and 31 intersect. I'll put my flourescent
    orange jacket over the mailbox again.

    If you have HALT, bring it. A spare pair of knees might come in
    handy, too.

450.1How about the following week end ?MENTOR::REGTue Sep 01 1987 14:488

    	I remember the last time we tried to do that one.....

    	Sorry, but I have a shorter though steeper ride scheduled for
    13th., which I thought you were going to do this year ?

    	Oh, 13th is also Tiverton, I s'pose North B'field would be a
    good thing to do the day before though ?

    Oh, I forgot all about Tiverton. How's this: Let's push it out
    till October 3 with October 4 for a raindate. That should get all
    the September centuries (and Mt. Washington hill climbs, for any
    mountain madmen out there) out of the way. Also, foliage season
    should be great by then.

    So, we'll leave from my house at 9:30 on October 3 for a 60 mile ride.
    There aren't a whole lot of places to stop for food, so bring some
    along.

    I'll make some brownies or something for afterwards.

    	Do I smell Apple Dumplings?!?

    Thanks for changing it from September. I may try to borrow Bill
    Darby's Lightning for the weekend - it's a recumbent that should
    be good on hills. - Chris

    Yes, I think we could squeeze an apple dumpling in there. The ride
    happens to go dangerously close to Brookfield Orchard.

    I was all set to leave for Kathy's when I decided to reset my Avocet
    Cyclocomputer. I pushed the requisite buttons in what I still believe
    was the correct sequence, and the stupid sun began to set, right
    then and there!
    Well, I knew I didn't have time to get to Kathy's before dark, and
    not having a light, I decided to wait till next year.
450.12CHEAPR::NORTONTue Oct 13 1987 13:597
    That's wierd, Gary. I didn't think the sun ever came up that day.

    Actually, it was a very nice ride. That's the second time we've
    had that ride, and so far an average of 1.5 people have ridden
    each time.    Maybe next year!
