I'm interested in those nifty looking (!?) two way radios, and
wondering if it is worth buying one. For instance,
-Range problems - how far can you be seperated?
-Frequency - does anything interfear with reception? Can you
change channels?
-Durability - how does the thing appear to be holding up
-Battery hog - how long per battery
-Ease of use
-Price
And last, but not least, does the thing go back on the shelf after
you have used it a few times?

I have one for riding motorcycles it can be used on any helmet
or it comes with a head clip. The manufacture is MAXON. It only
has one freq and the one I have some times picks up cordless phone
conversations. But it don't get interference as in static. As far
as durability I have dropped mine and it still works. The range
is about 1/2 mile in bad areas and a mile on flat clean areas.
The battery is a nine volt battery and it last me about 30 hours
or more some times a good copper top would last long enough to forget
about needing to keep an extra around. When I first got one with
a friend of mine I felt kind of dumb or should I say looked kind
of dumb with a antenna sticking off my head. But after having one
it really makes it alot more fun.
Some other things about it is it has volume control, a push
to talk switch or a voice activated switch. you can get one with
a radio in it so when your not talking the radio plays. The head
set velcro's on to a helmet and the unit clips on the belt.
If you ride alot with the same person and are tired of yelling
"WHAT" then by all means go out and get two. For those of you that
are thinking safety the ear phone only covers one ear.

The two-way headsets I have seen work quite well if your in the
open. (on a bike...) I have used a set of GEs in a couple of cars
with limited results. One problem I can think of with the ones I've
seen is getting them under a helmet.
But, I'm sure if Gary is crazy enough to ride to streets of NYC,
then he doesn't wear a helmet. :-)
