360.0. "BASSO frames" by ZEKE::MCCARTHY () Wed Jun 24 1987 17:30

Has anyone had any experience with Basso frames? there is
an article in the cyclist mag. on the Basso Gap and they talk
very highly on the workmanship of the frames. Does anyone know
of any dealers in the southern NH or northern MASS area.

    thanks Joe

    Sure.

I used to be sponsored by the Bicycle Exchange in Cambridge, Ma,
the only Basso dealer I know of, and a Basso Gap frame was part
    of the deal.

From the day I first rode it, I felt right at home. That's the best
quality the frame has...it's very neutral. Not too slow, not too
squirrely, just right. It's a agile handler for the tight New England
criteriums, yet it's very comfortable for medium length road races
(50-100 miles). I guess I've got about 10K miles on it.

About the workmanship....it's not in the same league as a Cinelli
or Masi, but it's at least as good as the mainstream Italian frames
of today. Italy used to make the best and prettiest frames in the
late 60's and early seventies, but us Americans have taken over.

If you fit a 54cm and you'd like a ride, feel free to send mail
and I'll let you take a spin. I live in the central Mass. area.
