359.1 | TRY VELO NEWS | AKOV03::FULLER | | Wed Jun 24 1987 12:27 | 7 |
| There is a Bi-Weekly (I think) publication named Velo
News. It is in newspaper format and lists results of
many local and national races. Check a bike shop
for a copy or perhaps someone else in the notes has
their address

| re .0 OK, so you got *TWO* replies, you should probably conclude
that the rest of us just make stuff up as we go along (I certainly
do). Its never been clear to me why "Journalists" on a subject
are quotable experts.

I was not looking for the resources that people were drawing on
for contributions to this notes file. Any peruser of this file
can see that it derives mostly from the experiences (and
imaginations) of frustrated athletes who misinterpret their
hallucinations for "insight". :-)
> Its never been clear to me why "Journalists" on a subject

If I wanted a quotable expert, I'd come to you, Reg :-)

Woops. Not any more I won't.
Seriously, journalists ought to be able to provide provocative
coverage of the sport and its "heros". Returning to the Mayor's
Cup race over the weekend, where can one get reliable coverage
in print? From noters who happened to be in attendance?
From the back of a box of Nabisco Wheat Thins (the sponsor)?
From the bottom of cup of Slurpy (Yes, our 7-eleven team won
again)?
Perhaps Velo News is what I'm looking for. Re .2 I called them
and they were in fact covering the race. They're sending a
complimentary issue and I'll find out if their writing is
journalism or promotion.

359.5 | Clarification requested, July 11 race | 3D::LAWRENCE | | Wed Jun 24 1987 16:06 | 3 |
| Is the July 11 event in "Cranby" Connecticut, or is it Granby?
(Question for Charlie Schnare) - I never heard of Cranby, but grew
up in the latter town.

359.6 | try 'Winning Bicycle Racing' mag | GRUNT::KLASMAN | | Wed Jun 24 1987 19:50 | 6 |
| There's also a monthly called "Winning Bicyle Racing" or some such moniker.
It covers racing almost exclusively, esp. European racing. It's available at
most news stands. It has very indepth articles that seem well informed, to me
at least.

To paraphrase and generalize an oft' quoted <..err, person, dunno who>
Journalists are people who cannot write, writing about things they
cannot do, for people who cannot read.

359.9 | WHO are YOU | ULTRA::SEIDEN | 2 outs, 2 strikes, 2 run lead | Thu Jun 25 1987 14:06 | 6 |
| I believe it was Pete Townsend of the British rock group the Who,
referring to reporters covering the rock scene:
They're people who cannot sing writing about people who cannot
talk for people who cannot read.

| re .9 That may be one version, but I think the original predates
the Who, and probably Pete Townsend too. Anyway, I said I was paraphrasing.
