| Thanks, all. Finally found batteries (tough!), now to get ahold of the
instructions and get the show on the road!

319.3 | I know I'm a little older/heavier but 5 mph? | GSFSWS::JSMITH | Support Bike Helmets for Kids | Fri Mar 09 1990 11:34 | 12 |
| I've lost my directions but unlike the author of the base
note, the batteries on my model 30 were brand new last
year and they are dead already. I've installed the new
ones but my top cranking speed is now just under 5 mph.
(Nahhhh, it can't really be me......can it?)
Does anyone have the calibration directions for the model
30.....might as well post them here if you do since a lot
of others will likely need them as well if juice consumption
on my unit is typical for the new model. Thanks.

319.4 | Avocet Model 30 Calibration Instructions | FLUKES::SUTTON | He roams the seas in freedom... | Fri Mar 09 1990 20:39 | 56 |
| Since I just did mine this morning....
Calibration Procedure:
Find the calibration number for your tire size from the table or
determine it by custom calibration. Go to the total distance function
and hold down both buttons for more than two seconds. This shows the
calibration numbers. Numbers begin at 100 and go through 299. There is
one sequence of numbers for miles followed by one for kilometers. The
mile range is indicated by "mi" in the lower right corner of the
display and kilometers by "km". To rapidly advance the numbers hold the
left button down. To advance the numbers one at a time, click the left
button. When you reach your number, click the right button to leave
calibration.
Note: If you want your cyclometer to show kilometers instead of miles,
or miles instead of kilometers, reset total distance (by removing the
battery) before recalibrating. If you don't reset, you will add miles
to kilometers or kilometers to miles.
Number Number
Tire Size mi km Tire Size mi km
20 x 1.75 164 165 700 x 25 224 225
26 x 1.5 212 213 700 x 28 225 226
26 x 1.9 220 221 700 x 32 227 228
26 x 2.125 225 226 27 x 7/8 223 224
700C Tubulars 224 225 27 x 1 226 227
26 x 1-3/8 222 223 27 x 1-1/8 228 229
700 x 20 221 222 27 x 1-1/4 230 231
Note: Tire sizes are molded into the tire sidewall. This table is based
on popular tire brands and assumes recommended inflation pressure and a
rider weight of 150 lb. (68 kg.). If your tire size is not included, or
if you want to account for your particular combination of weight, tire
pressure, and brand, use the custom calibration procedure.
Custom Calibration.
To get a calibration number for your unique tire circumference you must
measure the tire while you ride. To measure this rolling circumference
first mark the ground directly below the valve stem when the stem is at
its lowest point. Have a helper push you in your normal riding position
until the valve stem returns to its lowest point. Make another mark
below the stem. Measure the distance between the marks. This is your
rolling circumference.
Calibration Formula:
Miles: Calibration Number - Rolling Circumference in Inches x 2.7273
Example: If your rolling circumference is 82.75 inches, then 82.75 x
2.7273 = 225.684. Rounded to the nearest whole number your calibration
number is 226.
Kilometers: Calibration Number = Rolling Circumference in Millimeters x
.108
Example: If your rolling circumference is 2136 mm then 2136 x .108 =
230.688. Rounded to the nearest whole number your calibration number is
231.

319.5 | If only it wouldn't lie to me... | GSFSWS::JSMITH | Support Bike Helmets for Kids | Sun Mar 11 1990 18:07 | 6 |
| Thanks. The directions appear to work, but I'm still concerned
about accuracy. I think I'll turn it off until summer or
as soon as the effect of an entire winter of carbo loading
wears off :-).

319.6 | Yep...did it again | GSFSWS::JSMITH | Support Bike Helmets for Kids | Fri Apr 06 1990 20:50 | 13 |
| Thanks again. I picked up an old model 20 at
Nault's Supersale this past week for $1.00 on
the chance that it might work with a new battery.
It did, and I was plesently suprised to see that
the bike mount and sending unit are backward
compatible and thus was able to test it out
on my model 30 set up. Same thing happend with
the 20 and my speed was about half as fast as
I was traveling soooo back to this note to recall
how to calibrate it ....again. This time I've
etched the procedure in my memory ....until next
time of course :-)
