Can anyone give me some quick advice. I am about to buy an ATB, or is it a Mountain Bike, or is it an off-road bike. The point is thats my confusion. What are the differences in these bikes, or are they really all the same. I'd like to use the bike on the Vineyard on the dirt roads, leading to the beach, and to be able to run into town for some groceries. I'm not interested in climbing mountains with it, or jumping off of cliffs with it. Nor am I interested in long rides of over say 25-30 miles. I won't be carrying much gear, either. Suggestions, advice and comments welcome. Thanks

> ...an ATB, or is it a Mountain Bike, or is it an off-road bike. The names are fairly much interchangable. They all connote a bike with a smaller frame and wider tires than a road bike. A "commuter" or "city" bike is similar to an ATB but generally has narrower tires with a less "agressive" tread. For the roads of the Vineyard, look for a bike with wide (26 or 27 by 1.95 through 2.125 more or less) tires. The narrower the tire the harder they are to control on sand. |
