After giving my bike a good wash last weekend, I noticed a strange
grinding noise coming from the rear hub. I seems that water may
have worked its way into the bearing and caused some problems.
The wheel is a Suzue "Sealed_Tech". Does anyone know anything about
this type of hub? I am curious as to whether this is a sealed bearing
hub and, if so, if I can repair it myself.
I plan on getting a free wheel removal tool, but don't know if I'll
be able to get the hub apart after the free wheel is taken off.
Are other special tools required for this type of hub? I have a
good workshop manual (Bicycling's) but it doesn't say much about
servicing sealed hubs.
All inputs will be most welcome!
Thanks,
Denis

I think it is only a "Sealed Mechanism" hub. The bearings
are conventional but there is a plastic contact seal between
the cones and the dust covers. The hubs are serviced the same
as a conventional hub but you must be careful not to damage
the seals if you want to pry off the dust covers.

P.S. I had a "Sealed Mechanism" hub with a cone failure. When
I replaced the cone the new one was a smaller diameter so the
seal didn't seal any more. I have since replaced the hubs with
real sealed bearing hubs.
