I am trying to sell my old bicycle as it is too small for me. In order to include the frame size in the ad, I measured the frame in what I thought was the correct way. I measured from the top of the tube that the seat-stem fits into (correct name??) to the middle of the peddle "casing". I thought this was the correct way. Yet, people seem unable to believe that I am trying to sell a 21" bicycle. So which is it -- tiny frame or improper measurement? Thanks for any information. Kevin McDonough

Some would have you measure from the center of the bottom bracket to the point where the center of the seat tube would meet the center of the top tube. This is called the center-to-center frame size. What you measured was the center-to-top frame size (which is most common in the USA). 21" is a common frame size (unless everyone knows that you're over six feet tall). Maybe they think you're talking about the wheel size and expect to see 24", 26" or 27"? Maybe if you specify "Bike with 21 inch frame and 27x1-1/4 tires" you will clear up some ambiguity.

You did good, my son. 8^) Center-to-top measurement (like you did) is common on inch-sized bikes. Center-to-center is more common on metric sized frames (cm). FWIW CdH

re .1 and .2 Thanks for the info and reassurance. If I don't get any responses soon, I'll readvertise with the wheel measurements, as suggested in .1. Kevin |
