I'm in the market for a Catmate, Cateye Solar or Cateye Solar II, depending
on the price. Way up here in Canada they seem to apply so much duty and taxes
that the prices are way outa line. Here are the prices I obtained locally:
Catmate $69.99 Can
Cateye Solar $114.99 Can
Cateye Solar II $164.99 Can
Since I'm really not interested in owning shares in Cateye and I plan to be in
Boston (Bedford) at the end of May, could anyone out there provide some local
prices on the above? I have seen the Cateye Solar II advertised in a bike mag
for $79.00 US from a place in Minnesota. Are the prices as good in the Boston
area?
Thanx in advance...

I belive I only paid 64.95 for my cateye solar. I forget if it was
the solar II or not. I'm sure it dident pay over the $64.95 though.

P.S. I bought mine last summer. Doubt prices have taken that big
of a jump.

I've seen prices in mail order catalogs for as low as $38.95, I
think it was Nashbar. I see two options, first why not order from
a mail order place and pay any duties, I doubt the duties would
be very high. Check the cycling magazines for the latest.
Second, you could order it from a mail order place and have it
delivered to the work location you plan to visit in May. Or one
of us could order it for you and hold it until you get here.
Cateye II is about $95 mail order.
Prices have come down on the Cateyes because of the introduction
of the Cateye II.
I assume your prices were $Canadian, my prices are US.
Good luck

The latest Nashbar catalog lists a Cateye Solar I for $36.90. The II is much more and has way too many bells and whistles for me. I have a Cateye Solar I. My favorite function is the cadence, and I used to leave it set to cadence for the entire ride. My new Cannondale frame is too fat for the cadence sensor, so for now I am just using the time-of-day clock during the ride and trip distance and total distance functions at the end. Yes, a pulse readout would be nice, but for now I just ride as far and fast as I can, then take a shower. Read note 5(?) on the Cateye solars. Keep it under bright lights, esp. in winter. And remember, the batteries hate the cold. Mine are 3 years old, and still going strong. My cousin's died on his window during the winter, and will no longer hold a charge. cbs | |||||
