Does anyone have any experience with Steve's??

I don't know anyone who's bought a bike there, but their prices on
parts seem to be high, and the selection wasn't that great. I sent a
female friend in with a list of parts to buy for an overhaul, and the
teenagers working there were somewhat condescending and not very
helpful (wouldn't look up the right bearing sizes for her bike, for
instance). For ordinary stuff, I use the Spoke'N'Wheel group stores
    (see the Yellow pages).

When stores hire kids as salespeople, their attitude can vary a lot,
    though frequently it's arrogant.

I haven't any experience with Steves. The Bicycle Barn on Rt 9 was always
a good bet. I haven't been there for years , tho, and something tells me
they might have closed up????? I really like the Lincoln
Guide in Lincoln (off rt 117), and of course my buddy Geo. Gamache on rt
12 in Fitchburg, the greatest bike store this side of the Mississippi.
You didn't ask about "Everybody's", which is good, because if I had to tell
you about all the garbage that happened to me the time I went in there,
my blood pressure would rise too high. My advice is to stay away, far far
away, from Everybody's in Northboro.

I bought a bike from Steve's last summer. I've only had to go back a few
times since then, but I got a good impression. Steve seems to be honest and
an okay guy; of the two other employees that I've dealt with, I liked one
(seemed like a real bike nut), and felt neutral about the other.

My gripe about Steve's is their hours of business. At least last year,
they were only open till 4:00 or so most days, closed one day during
the week, and only open from something like 12:00 to 4:30 on Saturday.

Fritz's Bike shop in Worsecter is unique. It's in the basement
of New England Backpacker and most of their stock hangs from the
ceiling. But Fritz is a great guy and the help is quite good.
The prices I'm not sure of because I usually buy mail order and
    do my own service.
O'Neil's of Worcester and now Rt 9, Shrewsbury proberbly has the
largest selection around for new and used bikes.
Stay away from Everybody's in Northboro unless you want a kids bike.

                          ---------

Which secter of Worsecter did you say that's in?

I smile when I see those Coloradians mention Worchester, but my gosh,
here's a Worsectarian mispelling it!
Whottle we do with now? Move to Leominister?

I have had 2 bikes into Fritz's this year and was pleased with the
way he does business. Fritz likes bikes, rides and seems to be
trustworthy (to a degree). Anyway he worked within my limits.
He is also active in a Club for touring that may interest Worcester
residents that are not into racing. The store is in a basement
and merchandise hangs from the ceiling and all around. A change
    from the normal store.

The Bicycle Barn on Rt. 9 is still there and I have used them also.
I have good words for their work, but for normal maintenance, Fritz
seemed a better deal. I recommend either.

218.7Steve's OK by me.MAY26::DEEREMicro EmpireWed Mar 11 1987 17:259
I bought a bike at Steve's and was treated well. After the pur-
chase, I was encouraged to come back and get my bike tuned for free
in a month. During the time that I was deciding what kind of bike
to buy, the saleperson (a teenager) was pretty well informed on
bikes in general, and didn't really push me to buy anything in par-
ticular - just pointed out their relative merits and let me decide.

    My two cents...

218.8I avoid him if possibleCIMCWP::BEFUMOMon Aug 27 1990 15:406
I live in Hudson, one town over from Marlboro, where Steve's is, and
unless I'm in the middle of something & need a part right away, I
always avoid going there. I've found his prices to be high, and my
wife expereienced a similar condesending attitude from the sales people
when going for parts. THe prices he's quoted me on bikes have also
    been high.
