214.1Is this *THE* Paris-Breste-Paris, or a tourists' tour ?EUREKA::REG_BMoutain Man(iac)Fri Feb 13 1987 11:5311

Huh ? I don't understand. If these are qualifying times
for what I had always thought was a big, tough, for real, race,
then it looks like almost anyone could "qualify", even *ME* ?

Think about it; 200 km in 14 hours, thats less than 10 MPH
average. 200 MILES in 14 hours is reasonable at the club tourist
level, even in New England where we don't ride all year long.

This is it, the real thing....

PBP is not really a race, from what I've seen about it. I was toying with
entering it a few years back. Some people will really go to get a good time,
much as they will on any club century ride. PBP is not perhaps for the
casual tourist, as it amounts to approx. 750 miles in 3 1/2 days, which
is averaging near 200 miles each day for 4 days to finish in the allotted
time......

PBP is the ultimate "this is not a race but you finished 932nd,
63rd for your age group/sex, congratulations"

Qualifiers are scheduled in North America for Syracuse, NYC, Columbus,
Ft Worth, KC, Lexington (KY), Miami, Milwaukee, New Orleans, Raleigh,
San Fran., "Southern Cal", St Louis, Portland (OR), Boston, Vancouver.

Membership in the International Randonneurs is required.

PBP has a history going back to 1891.

This year's PBP will be held beginning 4 AM Aug 24.

    See you in Paris, Gary?
