157.0. "Visit to Maynard" by GVAMDB::DURK () Tue Oct 07 1986 12:43

I am a recent new comer to this notes file but have enjoyed some
of the dialogues that have been going on for the past few months.

I will be visiting the Maynard area (from Switzerland) at the end
of October and would be interested to visit some of the local bike
shops. Any ideas ? (with directions).

Also, can one hire reasonable bikes in the area?

    Thanks

I haven't found any good shops in Maynard. All my favorite ones
are in Boston and Cambridge. If you really want directions, send
me mail; the route is too arcane to type right now.

I know of one place near Maynard that rents bikes. It's the Lincoln
Guide Service. I have never rented a bike myself, but they seem
to be a decent bike shop. It depends on what you call a reasonable
    bike.

To get there, head east on Rt 117 from Maynard. You will cross
Rt 126 (it is well marked). After passing 126, you will come upon
Lincoln Rd. Turn left there. Near where you cross the railroad
tracks there will be a one story building on the right with a bike rack
    in front. That's the place.

I rented a bike from Lincoln Guide when I was first visiting Massachusetts
"house hunting". It was great to stop driving for a while, and get out on a
bicycle.

I called and reserved a bicycle. When I got there, I asked if he had one with
toe clips. He apologized (the place was very busy - there was no time for him
to mount them for me), and said if I had asked, they would have been glad to
put on toe clips.

Two points then: 1) They are nice, accomodating people
		 2) If you want toe clips (or something "out of the ordinary",
it is best to ask when you make the reservation

Enjoy your visit.
