Not sure if there is discussion about this already... but here is
a plug for a certain bike computer.
For years I avoided the things. I couldn't see running wires all
over my nice clean, stripped down, bike (ughh!). Then I saw the
Huret/Sachs.
It fits on the front fork. Absolutely no wires. Shows cumulative
distance, trip distance speed. Very easy to use and read.

Is that the one that Bike Nashbar was pushing in their recent
flyer? Rectangular-ish, with (apparently) three displays?
It got my interest; glad someone has tested it for me! :)

Yes it is the little rectangular (sp??) one with three displays:
total miles in small numbers, trip miles in medium numbers, speed
in big numbers.
Very well thought out little gadget (love those gadgets....).

My Huret promptly broke after 100 miles with a blank display.
If you compressed the case, then the display whould return.
Un-canning the thing I, found the problem to be a thin flex-cable
from the module is compressed between the case and the glass display.
If due due to distortion of the case this interconnect becomes unrel-
iable. HOW TO FIX:
Glue using rubber cement a section of a rubber band to the inside
of the case, parallel to the edge of the opening for the display.
And now the tricky part, in order to get the flex cable between
the glass display and the case, the way it came from the factory
you have to remove the front bezel lable. This is made from vinal
and is easily removed, with this cover removed you now can tuck
the ribbon cable between the glass display, and the case fortified
with the rubber band. Final assyembly consists of snapping in the
module, inserting the battery, and installing the battery cover.
You can the reglue (Rubber Cement) the front cover.
This fix restored full functonalty to the computer, I like the
Huret for the reasons already listed but if it breaks again I
will replace it with the Avcet unit.

That sounds like a very ingenious repair (I'm impressed). But why
didn't you take it back to the store and say, "This thing broke,
I'd like a new one".
