100.0. "Department store humor" by SUSHI::KMACDONALD (Engineer on the Train of Thought) Wed Jul 16 1986 13:33
Don't know about the GENERAL, but I used to work as a mechanic and know
that most (all?) of the $89 bikes from Sears, Penney's, K-Mart, etc. are
worth about $89 less than their purchase price. Aside from the problem
of getting a fit (everyone rides a 22", right?) frequently they can't be
made to work correctly at all - e.g. frame dropouts configured so that
the rear derailleur can't possibly be adjusted correctly, etc. Some came
assembled so as to be positively unsafe to ride. Go to a real bike shop.
you should come out happier with the bike, and safer, too.
