80.2More info on the Newton Sunday morning races.NUWAVE::HATCHERFri Jun 13 1986 14:3115
I have wondered about those "beginners" races in Newton. Can you
tell me more about them, such as:

o How long are the races?

    	o How "beginner" is beginner?

o What pace do these people ride?

I would like to get into racing, but I don't want to embarrass myself.
I have raced in four triathlons, but never a real bike race.

    Thanks
    Bob Hatcher

The beginner race starts at 8:30 (contrary to some info), you should
get there about 8:15 to sign up. It costs about $2 - $3. Most
    have a hard shell helmet.

    So much for boring details..

It really is a beginner race. It starts with a clinic that is not
a race at all. The clinic proceeds at a slow pace for several miles
(laps) with an experienced racer giving pointers about racing.
They talk about cornering, safety in a pack, etc.

After the clinic is a 4 mile (5 lap) race. After that is a 12 mile
    race at a faster pace.

    Give it a try
