48.0. "IVV biking events ?" by PUFFIN::WILSON () Wed Apr 23 1986 14:02
I know of IVV sanctioned Volksmarches in this area, are there any
IVV approved bike events?
For those who don't know...
IVV is the International Peoples Sport organization (IVV is German,
I think.) which promotes popular family sports (as opposed to
competition sports).
The most popular IVV event is the Volksmarches (Literal trans: People's
Walk) Volksmarches are 10 or 20km strolls thorugh wooded areas.
The object is not to come in first, but to finish. Any one who does
wins a medal. Other prizes are given for distance and # of events
participated. They are very popular in Europe and many servicemembers
are bring the sport back to the states with them.
The IVV also sponsers bicycle events, but I haven't heard of any
in the E. Mass Area (or New England for that matter.)
I am a very casual rider, but my wife is more of a bike freak.
It comes from growing up in her uncle's bike shop.
I have some more information on the IVV at home. I'll bring it in
on Friday. (I'll be out at IDECUS tomorrow.)
