970.0. "LANE join failure when LES=BUS address" by TAV02::YAIR (Yair Tsoran, Israel, DTN 882-3094) Thu Jun 05 1997 12:00

I have a customer that is trying to connect Alpha Digital Unix with ATMworks
350 to FORE systems ASX200 switch in LANE. The LES and the BUS on the FORE
switch are configured on the same ATM address (the same selector byte). When
trying to set up the LANE in DU, it finds the LES, but the BUS address stays
zero. "atmelan show" shows that it's in state "WAIT_JOIN". The Alpha fails to
register as LEC in the LES (LEC ID zero).

Any help?

Thanks,
Yair

970.1Use different selectorsSMURF::GREBUSDTN 381-1426 - Digital UnixThu Jun 05 1997 14:466
    The DIGITAL UNIX LANE code doesn't currently support "combined" LES and
    BUS. The only workaround is to configure the LES and BUS on different
    selectors.

In IBM switches, the default LANE setup is the same selector byte for LES and
BUS. Since there's IBM mainframe around, they set the FORE switch as the IBM
expected. SUN's LANE setup support this. I think we should support "combined"
LES and BUS for interoperability reasons.
