963.1 | Supported but UNIX only. | SMURF::GREBUS | DTN 381-1426 - Digital Unix | Tue Jun 03 1997 14:09 | 11 |
| According to the hardware folks, ATMworks 750 is supported on all revs
of DEC3000-300, but UNIX only.
That may be all "supported" revs, as we've seen the adapter
fail to work on at least two Pelicans that were probably proto or early
production revs.
It works fine on the DEC3000-300LX (Pelican+).

Thanks Gary
It is in the SPD for V7.1 and from the [OpenVMS V7.1/NF] Chapter 3 System
Management Features
OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.1 supports and manages with the LANCP utility
the following networking features:
o LAN emulation over an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network
o Classical IP (CLIP) over an ATM network
Table 3-1 shows the ATM devices supported by OpenVMS Version 7.1.

Could someone clarify?

963.3 | Not supported on OpenVMS | STAR::DUFFELL | | Tue Jun 03 1997 17:35 | 14 |
| Jim,
OpenVMS V7.1 does NOT support the ATMworks 750 on the DEC3000-300. The
driver for this device was written to only use mapping registers and the
DEC3000-300 does not support mapping registers.
The V7.1 New Features manual does mention this. However it also states that
the 350 is not supported on the AlphaStation 200 and 400 series....which is
not true. The 350 is supported on the AlphaStation 200 and 400 series.
Sorry for the confusion. The documentation will be updated.

| The definitive document for answers to "is adapter XYZ supported on
platform ABC" is the Systems and Options Catalog. It lists
which adapters the platform qual group has formally qualified. Even
though the operating system SPD may list adpater as supported
by the OS, there may be performance, mechanical, power, etc
reasons why it is not supported on a particular platform.
