959.0. "lec problem" by NNTPD::"[email protected]" (patrick shee) Thu May 29 1997 13:58

hi,
I am setting up a ATM network for demo. the network has two GS/ATM,
two EA and two atm hosts runnig LANE. The network diagram is as follow :

   EA-------GS/ATM(a)---------GS/ATM(b)-----EA
               / \
              / \
            ATM host ATM host

The LES/BUS/LECS are created and enable on the GS/ATM(a) only. ELAN name are
assign to the GS and the EAs. The problem is only the EA and the host on the
GS/ATM(a) side can join the ELAN. I set both the EA to aautomatically
identify the LES address(default).

if I manually key in the LES address on the EA and host connected
to the GS/atm(b), then these EA and host can join the ELAN.

My questions are :

1. how the LEC locate the LES address ?
2. Why the LEC connected to the GS/ATM(b) cannot automatically join the ELan
3. Do I need to configure ANYTHING ON THE GS/ATM(b) ?

Urgent help needed.

THank in advance.

I may be a little bit over my head here, but:

| 1. how the LEC locate the LES address ?

Through the LECS. There is but one LECS to which each ELAN registers a
LES and BUS instance so to speak.

| 2. Why the LEC connected to the GS/ATM(b) cannot automatically join the ELan

Make sure the LEC on (b) referes to the LECS on (a). If it does, make sure
you are not using an overlapping well known address, in which case (b) will
probably try to respond instead of passing on to (a).

| 3. Do I need to configure ANYTHING ON THE GS/ATM(b) ?

I'd think the only thing you need to do is to make sure that the LECS operate
on different addresses.

where can I check there are no overlapping well Known LECS address ?
if the two GS using the same LECS address, how can I change it ? The CLI
only allow me to enable and disable the LECS and display clients connected
plus the counters.

Thanks

If you had two LECSes turned on, they would almost certainly be using the same
well-known LECS address. The reason it's called "well-known" is that it has a
fixed value.

Turning one of the LECSes off might let its GIGAswitch route calls to the well-
known ATM address through to the LECS on the other GIGAswitch.

Alternatives if that doesn't work:

o Configure the NON-well-known ATM address of the main LECS into every
     client.

o Manually duplicate the ELAN database on both LECSes.

Version 2.5 will implement the ILMI Service Registry, but I'm not sure whether
it takes priority over the well-known LECS address or vice-versa. (Right now,
I'm working from home and don't have a copy of the spec handy.)

959.5Static route to well known LECS address.UTRUIN::DENIJSMon Jun 02 1997 09:149
    Patrick,

You could try to set a static route to the well known LECS address and
export it. Set a static with partial match on 4700079 (as stated in the
    release notes).

    good luck,

    Peter.
