932.0. "Rejoin ELAN after reboot ATMswitch 900F" by UTRTSC::VDCRUIJSEN () Mon May 05 1997 04:18

Problems with  re-joining an ELAN

We have setup ATMswitch 900F and VNswitch900ea with LAN emulation.
After configuring VN and ATM switches correctly we have an operational ELAN,
the LEC on the VNswitch joins and is operational.

900F is setup with the follwong commands:
elanall 1
elanall 1 -e
lecs -e
elanall +nv
lecs +nv

900ea

Interface 13 is enabled and running with default settings

The problem is the LEC's doesn't rejoin the ELAN after a reboot of the
ATMswitch900F. The only way I found to rejoin was rebooting all the 900EA
switches.
Customer doesn't like that because active connections between the 10baseT
ports on the VNswitch itself.
We have found a simular behaviour when connecting the VNswitch to a
GIGAswitch/ATM

Question: is there a way to rejoin a ELAN without rebooting the VNswitch.

Does the VNswitch900ea implement the LEC management specification?

If so, you might try setting the ifAdminStatus for the LEC interface to 'up'.
If the agent allows you to set this variable to that value, this should force
the client to try to join an ELAN.
932.2cant find ifAdminStatusUTRTSC::VDCRUIJSENWed May 07 1997 09:0922
Hello Thomas

I can't find in clearvisn 1.1 multichassis manager or via the CLI on the
    900EA the requested variable. The only setting I can find is the disable,
    enable (logical interface 13 e.a LEC) on the 900EA but this doesn't help.

Regards Gerrit

ifAdminStatus is a MIB-II object. Why did you expect to find it in the CLI?

A control in ClearVISN that allows you to enable and disable a LEC's logical
interface would probably be tied to that LEC's ifAdminStatus. Try

    - Disabling the interface and pressing "OK", then

    - Bringing up the dialog again, then

    - Enabling the interface and pressing OK.

Just enabling the interface by itself might not be enough, because ClearVISN
might not generate a SNMP request unless something had changed, and it's the
SNMP request that causes the LEC to retry the Configure/Join process.
