Hi all,
I've got a problem with our GS/ATM:
History:
We have 2 QLC V1.5 with Firmware Release 2.1.3 and CMM Firmware
Version 1.82 up and running.
We've got a QLC V2.0. I installed the QLC V2.0 in slot 1 (as
described in the Release Notes for 2.1.3). I set up the bootp
server (DU4.0B which runs joind instead of bootpd; but this
worked fine for me with the QLC V1.5 upgrade to 2.1.3).
The /tftpboot directory:

Problem:
The switch doesn't come up with QLC V2.0 and V1.5 installed!
The switch workes fine with QLC V1.5 only installed!

BTW: the QLC V1.5 are telling me that they're running:
Kernel Version 356 and Appl. Version 359
just what the release notes for 2.1.3 is showing.
The QLC V2.0 tells me that it's running
Kernel Version 353 and Appl. Version 355
Release notes for 2.1.3 doesn't mention *any* of the versions
the QLC V2.0 is telling me!
What's wrong with this? Help needed!

| I think that you should upgrade the QLC V2 to V2.1.3, that is manage to
use the bootp/tftp server when the QLC V2 is the only linecard
installed (which from .0 you couldn't so far...).

that's exactly what I've tried. Having only the QLC V2.0 installed
bootp/tftp serves the GS/ATM V2.0 Linecard with the images
-r--r--r-- 1 root system 1290736 Apr 18 17:36 LC20R213.BIN
-r--r--r-- 1 root system 524288 Apr 18 17:43 LC20R213.ROM
After the download and rebooting the switch it tells me
that the QLC V2.0 got Version 2.1 of the ROM and APPL.
images. Looking at the files served LC20R213.BIN and .ROM
it should tell me that it's V2.1.3.
So, do I have garbled/wrong/false images?
I've ftp'd them from gatkeeper (both the subdirectory and the
tar file).
Still need some help.

| From looking at the "QLC V2.0 only installed and booting" part of 0. it
appears that bootp failed. In my opinion that's the first problem to
track...
What's the IP address of your GS/ATM and what's your bootp server's?

you're absolutly right. It's working right now with both versions
of the QLC.
Just some notes which might save others some time.
Here's the setup which worked at least for me:
- Entry for /etc/bootptab:
an3:ht=1:ha=08002ba4f600:ip=16.185.112.63:hd=/tftpboot:bf=AN3_VER213
- Entry for /etc/inetd.conf:
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tftpd tftpd -r/tftpboot /tftpboot
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The last parameter is important; if you don't have the last parameter
"/tftpboot" tftp fails and the switch tells you there's an access
violation error.

If you still have problems getting "access violation errors" from
the GS/ATM, try following entries for /tftpboot/AN3_VER213:

QLC15 /tftpboot/LC15R213.ROM /tftpboot/LC15R213.BIN
QLCV2 /tftpboot/LC20R213.ROM /tftpboot/LC20R213.BIN

With all the absolute paths in there it even works if your inetd.conf
entry looks like this:
tftp dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tftpd tftpd
So, to be sure I'll use absolute paths from now on. It saves time
in figuring out what parameter which daemon didn't get or didn't
accept.
