899.0. "GS/ATM, DAGGL errors explain please ..." by BERFS4::NORD () Thu Apr 10 1997 07:20

	Good morning, good afternoon, good evening and all the other times
	this nice earth has,

	here are some experiences I have made with my first GS/ATM 5-slot
	installation and some errors I have found, which are not described
	in the documentation:

	At first:

	Read the documentation of the DAGGL-BA BEFOR you buy a DAGGL-BA, so you
	can't forget to buy a DAGPL-AA also! (Qustion: Is this mentioned else-
	where, 'cause customer got 10 DAGGL-BA but all without this funny
	DC-DC-converter? Beside, it has a nice price, about 300 dollars for
	two chips!)

	Just two days later we got two of the DAGPL-AA, so we are able to
	install two of the linecards in one GS/ATM. So we got our next problem:

	Clock modul is V1.82 and the two linecards are at V2.0. The GS/ATM
	boots, but the two linecards showed MOD LED solid amber. This is
	undocumented, the error message on the console is:

	System initializing...

	/******************************************************************/
	/******         diag_selftest          0:00:36          ***********/
	+++++++++Diagnostic Failure: <57>, SUNI 1 access error .
	/**** SelfTest Complete. FAILED. Time since boot: 0:01:01 ****/
	/******************************************************************/
	waiting at barrier 1: self test
	QLC in Slot 1 failed: 'SUNI 1 access error ' (BNC)
	QLC in Slot 4 failed: 'TestData internal line 1' (MMF)
	Selftest failed, system initialization aborted.
	GIGAswitch/ATM-> IP Address Set from flash 195.66.114.5 Mask ffffff

	So we decided to upgrade the two linecards, it seems, that CMM V1.82
	didn't understand the V2.0 (is documented elsewhere?).
	"Versions" showed Release 2.0FT for Rom and App.

	One hour later we have successfully upgraded the two linecards to
	V2.1.3, the latest we found at gatekeeper. After a nice DE/SMF and
	a reboot all seems to be ok, the linecards MOD LED are stabil green.
	So I have done a DE/SM0 and rebooted the GS/ATM. And so my next problem
	started:

	The linecards are going through the self-test and minutes later the
	LEDs showed:

	Master Line Card (Slot 1):
		MOD LED:	amber
		Line 1:		green
		Line 2:		green
		Line 3:		off
		Line 4:		off

	Second Line Card (Slot 4):
		MOD LED:	green
		Line 1:		green
		Line 2:		green
		Line 3:		green
		Line 4:		green

	One or two minutes later, the linecard in slot 4 showed MOD LED and
	Line 2- and Line 4-LED amber, the CMM LED is amber and the GS/ATM is
	rebooting!!! The mentioned LED code isn't documented, so I have to test
	which linecard is broken. With testing and reading (and don't under-
	standing) the errorlog, I found two hours later, that the linecard in
	slot 1 is broken, the second linecard (formerly in slot 4) as Master
	Line Card in slot 1 without the other linecard is working well.

	The problem is:
	The LED code shown above isn't documented, so I didn't know, what it
	wants to tell me. And displaying the errorlog at clock-level and on
	GIGAswitch/ATM-level on my laptop and cutting and pasting the output
	to a notepad-window is always disrupted by the rebooting of the GS/ATM.
	So I have to play a little around to get the GS/ATM stabil to get the
	informations.

	Here is what I get:

	The system is rebooting (linecards without selftest):

	flashApp_verify_checksum: calling task: tRootTask

	System initializing...

	ELAN 1 created.

	LES 1 created.

	BUS 1 created.

	gsmp init
	GIGAswitch/ATM->

	The system is rebooting (with linecard selftest):

	flashApp_verify_checksum: calling task: tRootTask

	System initializing...

	/******************************************************************/
	/******         diag_selftest          0:00:32          ***********/
	+++++++++++++++++Diagnostic Failure: <72>, TestData internal line 4.
	Diagnostic Failure: <72>, TestData internal line 4.
	/**** SelfTest Complete. FAILED. Time since boot: 0:02:01 ****/
	/******************************************************************/
      TestData internal line 4QLC in Slot 1 failed: ' TestData internal line 4'
	Selftest failed, system initialization aborted.
	GIGAswitch/ATM-> versions
	RomVersion: Release 2.1.3[356] : Fri Mar 21 13:03:20 EST 1997
	AppVersion: Release 2.1.3[359] : Mon Mar 24 12:19:16 EST 1997

	Host Boot Filename /tftpboot/AN3R213.giga.
	value = 44 = 0x2c = ','
	GIGAswitch/ATM->

	BY THE WAY:	Why do I have to extend the control file for the
			downline load by the name of the system as I named
			it in the /etc/bootptab??? (See above)
