860.0. "How to verify memory size?" by EWBV06::ENDO (Katsuhiro Endo - CSC/CS Tokyo,Japan) Mon Mar 10 1997 21:32

Hello,

Does anyone know how I can verify the memory size of the QLCv2 card?
I installed the expansion processor memory on the QLCv2, but it always
shows the following message at startup.

                               GIGAswitch/ATM
                        Digital Equipment Corporation
                             Copyright (c) 1995

                             DECelx Release 2.1.1
                Rom Rev. 000354 Wed Nov 6 14:49:05 EST 1996
8 MB memory, Ethernet Address: 08:00:2b:a4:fa:00
               ^^^^^^^^^^^^

Does this message mean that the QLCv2 doesn't recognize the additional
memory? Is there any command to verify that?

I have one more question. Does anyone try to install seven QLCv15s on
a GIGAswitch/ATM? Is it supported configuration?

Best regards,
  Katsuhiro Endo - CSC/Japan.

You should be able to fill the switch with cards, as long as you have enough
power. Once you go above 10 line cards, you must use two power supplies and
they must be the 20A (not 15A) ones, if I read the sales guide correctly.

Thank you for your prompt reply and I'm sorry my explanation was not enough.
I just wanted to know whether LAN Emulation correctly works on the GIGAswitch
which has seven QLCv15s. Our customer has a problem that LANE clients can't
join to LANE on that configuration. Five QLCv15 works correctly.
Does the customer need a QLCv20 with expansion memory as a master linecard?

I don't know why LANE would work with five line cards but not with seven.
