830.0. "ATM and RAWHIDE" by DECBAH::PATRO () Tue Feb 18 1997 08:17

Is ATM supported with AlphaServer 4000 and 4100 with OpenVMS operating
system. I mean cards like ATMworks350/750, can they be configured with
    AlphaServer 4000/4100,OpenVMS.

    Hi Patro,

The ATMW350 is supported starting with OpenVms 7.1 Lan Emulation
only last I knew. As far as the processor support I would reference
the SPD for open VMS 7.1. The SPD should list Hardware platforms
     supported for this release.

     Hope this helps

    Hi,

I found the following in the OPENVMS 7.1 SPD, It appears they
now have CLIP support and support for the 750 as well.

PRODUCT NAME: OpenVMS Operating System for Alpha and VAX, Version
      7.1
      SPD's 25.01.49

OpenVMS supports the standards defined by the ATM Forum's LANE Ver-
sion 1.0 specifications for LAN emulation over an ATM network. By im-
plementing an emulated LAN over an ATM network, you enable a group of
ATM stations to act like a traditional LAN. LAN emulated over an ATM
network allows you to run your existing applications basically
    unchanged,
while the computers on which your applications are running are con-
    nected to the ATM network.

OpenVMS implements the standards defined in RFC 1577 (Classical IP over
ATM). This implementation introduces the necessary system interface
for Classical IP (CLIP) over an ATM network, and enables CLIP and ARP
protocols in an ATM network environment to be configured as a logi-
cal IP subnetwork (LIS). Consult your IP product documentation for the
status of support of IP over this interface.

The ATMworks 350, like all other options, is/will be qualified by each of the
Systems groups, on their system. Each Systems & Options Catalog is updated
to reflect support when done.

The Systems & Options catalogs (SOC) are available via Digital's Information
Repository in the Products & Services category, Sys/Option Catalog (SO)
subcategory. I believe they are on the public web too.

There was a note posted elsewhere in the file that indicated this option
may not be qualified on Rawhide and Turbolaser, so it may be worth asking in the
Rawhide notesfile (MVBLAB::ALPHASERVER_4100) if not yet listed in the SOC.
