Hi, A customer has two campus. They have a clear E1 channel between the two campus. Now they want to establish their campus netwok with ATM. Our competetor use two router interconnect the two campus network through the E1 channel. In our proposal I recommend connect two GIGAswitch/atm with its E1 PMD directly. The customer interested in it. Now the customer will sign the contract with us. But till now I am still not sure if I can do so! I need a confirmation. I have sent a note in No.801 but no one give me any answer. I want to send mail to the Product Manager but I don't know his name and mail address. I need your warm hand! Thanks in advance, Humphrey

809.1 | Use caution with LANE over T1 or E1 | NPSS::WATERS | I need an egg-laying woolmilkpig. | Fri Jan 24 1997 08:50 | 6 |
Where are the routers in your proposal? I'm not fond of running LANE over a E1 or T1 link. Those links are dangerously slow for handling LAN broadcast packets. Sorry to say that, but when you want to emulate a LAN, it doesn't work too well through satellite links, ISDN, even T1 or E1. OC3 would work fine. The broadcast/multicast packets are my only concern; LANE over E1 may be OK except for that. |
