| Yes, OpenVMS supports multiple ATM adapters. I believe the number may
vary per systems type. Each system group will perform their own qual
and should specify the max number in the System Options Catalog.

| We've been working on qualifying 4 ATM 350s in a Tlaser (DWLPB) but the
_system_ isn't stable enough to pass. Hardware seems to work ok, but after
an hour or maybe 12 or maybe 24, the link fails and then fails to restart.
We (STE) currently believe that the problems (there are more than one)
are in the VMS driver, the GS/ATM, or elsewhere.
Since the ATM 351 is coming out "soon" and will replace the ATM 350, Tlaser
support has tentatively told us to skip qualifying the ATM 350 and wait for
the ATM 351. I have no reason to believe that the ATM 351 will perform any
better.
I wouldn't recommend that a customer buy ATM (buy FDDI) but I guess the new
model is that the only place that we want to fix the difficult system
integration problems is at critical customer sites. Why spend $100K doing
an inhouse qual when we can spend customer good will, $500K, and delayed
payment and delayed or cancelled follow on orders.

| We need to, and will, investigate these reported problems, along with the
appropriate Networks and Gigaswitch Engineers.
As a general point of information on the support for the next ATM adapter,
the ATMworks 351; VMS intends to support this via a hardware release in
the Q4FY97/Q1FY98 timeframe. Specific dates and commitments are still tbd.
