    Hullo,

    just realised that I haven't officially 'signed-in' ;')

    Harry Woodward-Clarke
    SNO (Sydney, Australia)
    DTN 730-5445

Started loading Slackware Linux last Oct/Nov (1.3 kernel), and then got
_seriously_ sidetracked with work and my wife's P90 and Win95 (and a
    2.5G HDD).

This last week, I decided "now is the time", so I went and bought
'Slackware 96' (v2.0 kernel) as part of 'LINUX Configuration &
Installation' (2nd. Ed) by Patrick Volkerding, Kevin Reichard & Eric F
    Johnson.

Installed Linux itself on Sunday afternoon (after 1/2 day reading), and
X on Monday afternoon (Public Holiday here in Oz) after some more
reading, on my DECpc MTE d2466. Now comes the exciting bit :')

Wheeeeeeee...! this is gonna be fun! :')

I've been in this business for a long time but until recently I
always considered UNIX to be a "four letter word". I put Red Hat
LINUX on a little pentium box and havn't had so much fun since my
    old pdp11/RSX days.

After getting thoroughly disenchanted with PC software.
[looks easy for a while then turns into unfixable rocket-science on a whimsy]
I thought I'd try out something else.
Iinstalled RH Linux 3.0.3 and then upgraded to RH 4.1 I'm still impressed.
I like the FVWM95/TNL setup in 4.1 :-). With tpu-edt in emacs I'm allset...0
The combination of the upfront statement "this isnt intended to be trivial", Samba
and the seemless integration of networking I think its an unbeatable combination.

I'm running it on a junk-386/33 but I beleive it deserves better.

I work in CXO, Colorado Springs doing software stuff to Array controllers.
[Anyone know of any device exerciser packages for Linux ?, before I dive in feet first
and write some !].
