I just moved from Switzerland to France (I know! this is UK_CARS). I'm importing my Mitsubishi Colt into France. And I'm having some trouble! I wont bore you with how the French bureaucracy is the slowest and least friendly I've come across in Europe. But I'd be grateful for a couple of pieces of information. The worst problem currently is 'homologation'. In other words the French claim my type of car has never existed in France. (What is the english for homologation? The idea is that the car follows the norms of the country). Bad news because it costs a lot to get a car 'homologated'. But the EEC gives me a possible way out. Since last year a car can be 'homologated' in *any* EEC country and La Belle France has to accept it. So, my two questions: - what's the english for homologise? - what's the phone number of the Mitsubishi importer in England (or indeed any other European country if you have that) so that I can get a certificate for my type of car from them. I can attempt to answer your questions:
>> - what's the english for homologise?
"homologate" - the process by which a car is accepted as
roadworthy.
>>what's the phone number of the Mitsubishi importer in England
(or indeed any other European country if you have that)

Hi John,
the English for homologise is, homologise ! and homologation is the
same also.
The Mitsubishi Colt was sold in the UK - although there may be some
variation on models - so you shouldn't have too much trouble, I don't
know who the UK importer is though.

Homologise sounds very much like type approval. Simon

Thanks for the info. (I didn't think to try Alta Vista). Story so far: France says "jamais"; Belgium says "looks like an invalid chassis number"! (I'll be checking that). I now have the German and Dutch importers to try. I'll try to let you know how it turns out. John D.
