| Howard,
I have fitted and removed a fair amount of stereo equipment from cars
in the past - I take it you have a standard Sony setup - including the
Tape deck head unit ( model 210, 420 etc ) followed by a ten disk
autochanger in the boot - if you have another head unit and a seperate
controller for the multichanger then the instructions are much the
same.
You will have the following coming from the head unit and controller.
One large diameter control cable ( depending on model this could powerr
the multichanger as well ) you should also have a set of two phono
cables which will be used to carry the sound output from the
multichanger.
With out knowing what type of car you have - this may be a little bit
vague :-
these leads will be passed from behind the head unit - usually over to
the passenger side rather than the driver side - either way though the
cables will be taken with the standard wiring loom on your car to the
rear ( if you open your doors you should have some kick plates which
cover the edge of the carpet by the door - the cable will be fed
underneath these ( if it has been installed correctly ) you will also
have to remove ( or bend out of the way ) the kick panel in the
footwell nearest the door - since the cable should run behind this up
into the dashboard.
As for the rear - the cable will re-emerge somewhere under your back
seats and be fed into the multichanger.
removing all this is very easy - but dont be afraid to start removing
bits of your car - it should take you no more than an hour or so even
being very careful and all you are removing is pieces of trim.
The easiest way to start is to pull out the head unit ( tape deck etc.)
for this you will probably need a tool supplied with the deck if its a
facia removal deck. it will have some small holes on the side of the
deck ( 2 each side for Sony, 1 each side for Kenwood ) you need to poke
something down these holes to release the clips holding the deck
inplace. ( if the holes are round - a bent coat hanger does the job )
If the deck is a pull-out unit then just pull the deck out and un-bend
the retainers on the metal chassis which will hold the deck in-place.
When you get to the back you should unplug the relevant connectors. If
you are permanently removing the deck and its a facia removal type -
remember it will still have a metal chassis so remove this as well !!
you should then be able to remove the cabling for the CD-player.
Hopefully this will help - its not a difficult job - it just looks like
youve gutted your car - but it wont take long to put it back together
If you need any more help - let me know !
