at last it appears to be based on the 'real' price of Petrol - 8.3p /
mile is 30mpg @ 54.9p / litre - sorry for the metric/imperial mix but
miles/litre, km/litre or even km/gallon dont' mean much to me.

| >30mpg @ 54.9p
The mileage increase is of course good news but I've noticed that since
the Esso Price watch war fuel prices seem to have steadied at 50.9p
(unleaded) nearly everywhere (at least in Hants/Dorset area).

Over the last couple of weeks I've travelled down to Tewkesbury,
Swindon and Glastonbury from the North West. The cheapest I've seen
fuel south of Birmingham is 55.9p (with a free glass for each 10 quid
spent !) at an independent in Street. At a couple of places around
Warrington it is down to 50.9p, but without knowing the wherabouts of
every Asda with a nearby BP or ESSO garage I'd say 54.9 is more the norm.
In my home town of Leek wher eI usually fill up, the ESSO Price watch has
had the effect of pushing up petrol prices, all garages and the superstore
now charge at least 54.9p whereas before it was as low as 50.9p at
some of the smaller garages.

| The average prices in Southampton are 50.9p/litre for unleaded. As the
big garages are now selling petrol at the same price as the
supermarkets, I'm hoping the supermarkets will put their prices down.
Even the Shell opposite DECpark is selling unleaded petrol for
50.9p/litre, normally they're the most expensive I see.

Perhaps the answer to that is to have a car that has a large enough
tank and good enough fuel consumption to do the return journey without
refilling.

I guess you mean the difference between Ap North and Up North. Seems
obvious who says it correctly to me.

42.9p/litre at half-term, and there was an Esso 'Price Watch' garage
down a back-street out of the way where no-one would go, (surprise
surprise) which was matching it!
I expect that's the one they use for their advert on TV!

| On a more pragmatic note...
I have an Excel spreadsheet that is an exact copy of the expenses form and is mile better than
the one available from Expenses. It was put together by someone who left Digital. However it is
password locked and i can't change the mileage rate to 8.3p.
Any idea how you can "hack" past the password?

I guessed the password on mine, and it was 'EXPENSE'. Good eh..
You do have to change the formula in the cost cells to make it compute
the decimal point.
