2509.0. "Astra Sport 2.0" by WOTVAX::nicey.olo.dec.com::Craig_Harris (I.S. Warrington) Tue Apr 16 1996 17:06

I hear there's a new 2.0l Astra Sport out now. Has anyone seen the
performance specs on this, or know how it compares to the 1.8l sport?

Thanks,

Craig.

This has happened before (many times probably). I used to have an astra
'sxi' which was virtually the same spec as the previous generation's
    GTE (1.8i, 8v).

The figures seem to be pretty much as per the 1.8 sport, but like you say
it looks like a gradual return to the GSi... Its no bad thing though.

Hi,

I've recently ordered a 3dr Astra Sport 2.0 for my company car,
and it should be arriving sometime in the next month, so I'll keep
you posted on the performance.

I visited a Vauxhall dealer, to get an idea of what the 3dr looked like.
Whilst there I asked the salesman what happend to the Astra GSi. He said that
it went out of production due to insurance reasons, but will soon be making
a come back, but under a different name, ie. Gsi performance but not called
GSi.

I don't know how much truth is in what he said, but I know I'll be
disapointed if it turns out to be far better than the Sport.

Regards,

Alan.

Hi,

If you've read the previous replies to 2509.0 you'll know that
I said I'd keep you interested parties informed on it's performance.

Well, up to now, (after 2 days, and about 100 miles) I'm very pleased
with the car. I'm currently getting an average of 29.7 mpg. The car
is definately quicker than the 1.8. Along the lines of the old Astra GTE.
Cornering is a bit vague, but I'm not someone who is used to power steering
anyway. But the general grip on the road seems good, yet I thought the
suspension would be stiffer.

Problems?
Well, the dealer didn't deliver it on time, because of a cock -up at the
factory....no alloys were put on the car, so they had to get some.
(Jokes about Liverpool and scousers welcome)

The engine sounds a bit gritty and course.

The radio in the car does not recieve signals from any radio station in the
Galaxy.

Other than that, a great car. (so-far)
