| Whats the penalty for driving without a tax disk?
I've often thought of what to do if I don't get a replacement tax disk
in time. I think I would insist on using a hire car till the new tax
disk arrives.
As the driver of the vehicle it is you that is responsible for making
sure the car is road legal. This includes being able to produce your
license, insurance and MoT as well as displaying an uptodate tax disk.
I know you have a few days to produce this to a police station if
required but it concerns me that the MoT is sent to PHH. What if you
have to produce it and they don't send it to you in time ?

because of PHH's incompetence get some compensation off them :-)

Royston, as far as I can remember if you're not displaying a tax disc,
it's an offence. It doesn't matter if you had it in your pocket, or it
had fallen on the floor - although I'm sure Mr Plod would probably just
warn you if this was the case. You don't get a chance to produce it
later.

| I got a ticket becuase my car was not displaying a valid tax
disc.
I had bought a disc that day, and the holder had fallen onto the floor
of the car.
I wrote a nice letter to the chief constable, enclosing a photocopy of
the disc and explaining that it had fallen off. I got a reply saying
that in the light of this, the ticket had been nullified.
I wouldn't want to chance that very often, though.

re:.0
If the hire company are pissing about then surely it's their problem to
get things sorted out. It's their car, you pay them to make sure you
get a legally OK vehicle for the period of the lease.
In this context when it's their fault (I mean; "we've shredded the
MOT") they should make amends.
"I can't believe that..." comes to mind.

Kevin, how about asking PHH to supply you with an equivalent hire
car until the new tax disc arrives if its going to be late after having
to get the car re-moted.
Its not worth the risk driving with an out of date tax disc. Sods law
and all that...

| Well thanks to Leaseplan its all sorted....
I called them this morning...they echoed my thoughts on how stupid P.H.H.
were in destroying M.O.T.'s that didnt arrive via the correct route and then
expecting the car leaser to pay for a copy of the original.
I got a call from P.H.H. and they are going to get the garage to supply a copy
to them for free.
Anyway thanks to leaseplan for talking to the morans at P.H.H.
K.R.
P.S. Could we sell P.H.H. a good database and some kit?
It sounds like they may need it , if they get 8,000 invoices a day and
they have a three month turn around in sorting them.
In fact you see why garages dont like dealing with P.H.H. invoiced work, it
must take them about 4 to 6 months to get paid.

| When _Digital_ failed to send me the tax disk they had received from the lease
company in time, my car was untaxed for over a week. I not only did not get any
compensation, I did not get an apology either.

Well what a surprise :-)
I still don't think there should be any reason for driving an untaxed
company car. The short term would be to get a hire car paid for by who-
ever's fault it is.

| Just to be a wet blanket.
In .0 it is stated that you were given an envelope and asked to send
the MOT certificate, in it, to PHH. You chose not to do this and
entrust that task to the MOT testing station.
I don't see that you were being asked to do anything unreasonable so
why didn't you? And further having chosen to buck "the system" why do
you feel hard done to? Tried buying a computer from Digital lately?
I would agree that PHH's atitude to incoming post is somewhat
surprising.
Andrew - feeling smug 'cos I posted mine as requested and had no
problems.

don't do enough business miles to justify a company car (:-)))))
2. I asked Leasplan if I could have my tax disk early since I would be
on holiday in France when the new one was supposed to turn up. They
were VERY helpful and I got the tax disk early as promised.

I did not try to buck the system....what would I gain from this exactly?
I just took the main dealers word for it ..when he said he sends M.O.T.'s to
P.H.H. with the invoice, when he deals with them.
I was more than happy to post it to P.H.H. .....
Next time I will not ....
In fact why I am I even bothering to argue the point .......

| My tax disc got 'lost in the internal post', PHH told me to call the
Police and tell them what had happened and put 'a note in the
windscreen'. I called the Police and they had a good laugh and told
me if they caught me not displaying a valid disc, for any reason at
all, they would nick me! I relayed this news back to PHH and they
simply repeated the 'note in the windscreen' advice and refused to
authorize a hire car. Lease Plan then came to my rescue and got me a
hire car (which I had for three days). I must say that I was most
impressed with helpfulness of the Lease Plan people, 500% better to
deal with than PHH.
Shame I'm leaving the car scheme in a weeks time :-)

Yes, when I had a lease car I had it MOT'd and the garage (Ralphs)
refused to give me the MOT certificate. They said they'd sent it on to
Hertz like they always do. My immediate reaction was to tell them to
not bother invoicing Hertz as I'll have to get it done elsewhere cos I
need to post the certificate myself, but common sense prevailed and I
guessed that the garage knew best and that the policy was in case you
were handed an MOT certificate from a garage and didn't know what to do
with it.

| Why do PHH have to have the MOT cert?, why not just a photocopy?, and
leave the original with the driver, so if the Doc's have to be produced
you don't have to wait weeks for PHH to find them???????.

It's a shame they don't know the difference between a Hatchback and a Saloon. Because of
this I had to settle for a third choice colour on my recent Cavalier order.
Otherwise I would agree.
