If you mean the small rack that fits onto the boot lid, most accessory
shops sell them (In the Thames Valley Les Smith's would be a good
choice), but Halfords is rapidly becoming a dead loss for anything
other than servicing parts for the most common models.
If you mean something more complex, you probably would need to talk to
a dealer for that car.

2422.2 | MG owners - where do they get theirs? | SAC::KERRISON_G | Open air Martini drinker | Wed Aug 09 1995 12:32 | 31 |

Hmmm
I've tried Les Smith - and they do a cheap and nasty bootrack....
NOT what I was looking for!
SO far they can't provide anymore info about better products...
(even though their supplier does a deluxe version). The manufacturer
has been taken over....
I've tried other shops - and they TRY, but come back to me later
saying that their supplier no longer makes them!
SO, I was thinking, maybe the MG owners club or similar have such
items (or know of suppliers of HIGH quality products)? (no I'm not a
member but then I haven't got an MG)
I'm looking for a chrome and wood rack - and its to fit an MX-5.
(nope i don't want one of those surface mounted things!)
thanx

| You might try looking in one of the kit-car specialist magazines.
These boot racks are popular with several kit cars owners (like Cobra
look-alikes, Pilgrim...). Maybe you could find one that fits your
car? They tend to be good quality, and expensive - most
builder/owners wouldn't put something naff on their pride and joy :-)

| Hi,
Also try, Practical Classics magazine and anyone of the other similar
magazines there are a number of "Classic Accessory" type specialists.
If this doesn't help I could order one for you from the MG Owners Club
but there is no guarantee it will fit as these are specially made for
MGs (I think)

| Hi,
I have just checked the MGOC Catalogue for you but the luggage racks
they now supply look to be a fixed size and supplied per MG Model.
A company called Moss Europe Ltd stock a range of bolt and clamp on
boot racks. They are based in the following towns but also offer a mail
order service.
Sprite & Midget B, C, V8 Centre (Richmond, Surrey 0181-948-6464)
Naylor Brothers MG Parts Ltd (Shipley, W. Yorks 01274 594071)
Sprite & Midget B, C, V8 Centre (Oldbury, W.Midlands 0121-544-4444)
Barry Stafford MG Parts Ltd (Stockport, Cheshire 0161-480-6402)
Sprite & Midget, B, C, V8 Centre (Bristol, Avon 01272-232523)
Moss darlington (Darlington, Co. Durham 01325-281343)
I hope this helps, most of the shops above stock Triumph as well as MG
parts so they may weel have something that would fit.
Best of luck
Graham

| Saw a couple of Cobra replicas last night, in Lower Earley. Both had boot
mounted luggage racks, from what I could see. Maybe a trawl through the kit
car mags could help you...err....ring DAX?
