| A Volvo 240 (I think... the old RWD ones with 1.7 inj engine) with
3-spoke alloys, painted brakes, Fido Dido stickers all over the
thing...
Sad..
Cheers,
Dan
P.S. Isn't there a topic for this already? Umm...

s'funny you should mention the wood-effect stuff. Lots of quite
expensive (it's relative though, when looking at UK prices) cars
can be ordered with wood panelling down the sides, as the old
huge Nissan V6 estate used to sport...
Worst thing I saw was a Calibra 8v with fog lights hanging above the
front bumper so they protruded above the bonnet line. Very sad.

Chris, I meant they'd be to high to be regarded as Fog lamps. It
depends on the vehicle of course, but as a rule of thumb if they're
below the bumper they're Fog lamps - otherwise they're not.

Talking about bad taste, in the car park this morning a tacky Mk1
fiesta hand painted puke green( with designer runs in it ), huge
forest arches, racing harnesses and to cop it all it had a mighty
998cc engine. Now thats what I call bad taste.

| There is a worse Mk1 Fiesta than that in the car park it has a really
badly faded silver (I think) paint job bog standard steel wheels and a
so called 1300cc engine that has a performance like an old thomas moped
and to cop it all a radio system out of Noah's ark...

2414.10 | | WOTVAX::HATTOS | It's simple - but it's not easy | Thu Jun 01 1995 09:06 | 14 |
| A friend of my mothers arrived in work one day with a big beaming
smile. When my mum asked why she was so happy, she replied that her
boyfriend had painted her car over the weekend and that it was now
really nice, you couldn't see any of those nasty rusty bits..
So, my mum was dragged down to the car park to see the newly painted
Fiesta in all its glory.
When she walked up to the car she burst out laughing and the girl was
really upset. Turns out her boyfriend had hand painted the car a lovely
shade of Dulux Red. Really, it was Dulux Gloss, complete with brush
strokes and paint runs.

I Have painted 2 or 3 cars using dulox gloss paint with just a little
petrol added to thin it and they have always turned out to be just as
good as using normal car paint .

| A much better idea is the use coach enamel, which is designed to be
hand-painted. It makes a damned good job of it, and goes on really
thickly. Flat it down with 1200 W/D and compound it up. No probs.

An example of designer bad taste ( either that or the design team
like a laugh) has to be the front and rear lights of the new Granada
Scorpio.
Ugliest design I have ever seen

Just tested the FIAT Brava and had a look at the Bravo. Nice car
but the rear lights are in very bad taste IMHO. Rather than having
a light cluster these lights are more like stripe's. Rather hard
to explain but when you see one you'll know what I'm talking about,
Mark.

Mark, d'ya mean the lights are the small thin rows of LED type things
that are appearing on rear spoilers for the new BMWs etc.?

Yes it had a row of LED's on the top section of the boot, not
where I would have imagined on top of the rear window.
But apart from that I hated the rear lights, I'll try and draw some
simple diags
NORMAL Car BRAVO or was
it Brava

Stephen,
I am not knocking the car, performace (5 cyl 20v) was a smooth as
a dye and the interior was nice too. What I am having a go at is
those terrible rear lights,

No offence was intended, and none was taken... I wuz' just pointing to
another review of the cars (which also show good photos of both the
rear-ends of teh Bravo and the Brava)....
Re-reading my note, I was a bit abrupt back there.
