| Hmm, could well be a problem with the unit, but I'm thinking it might
be some strange interference due to the extra load of the tape motors
/etc ?! I suppose it would be worth trying wiring the head unit up
directly to the battery and see if it still makes a bad noise.
He's not listening to some very strange music, is he, like "The
Crickets" or anything ?!

My car radio had a problem with a clicking noise when playing tapes,
but not when using the radio. I located it to one of the drive cogs
pulley having cracked. I replaced the pulley and it worked fine.
Apparently this is a common fault with car sterios when there is a
frost.
This may be the fault.

He plays lots a weird acid music but the noise continues when the tape
stops.
I'll suggest trying it from a different battery.
Re.2
The clicking noise definitely comes through the speakers, was that the
some with yours?

2286.5 | Sounds like the unit... | FORTY2::HOWELL | Just get to the point... | Fri Jul 29 1994 16:09 | 8 |
| I take it the speed of the clicks is independant on any engine speed or
other motors in the car (he doesn't leave his wipers on permanently
does he?!). If so, yes it's probably the head unit. It's very rare to
get interference on tape but not on radio - moreover it's usually the
other way round, isn't it?
