Does anyone have any comments on/experience of 1) Hire-purchase from a garage covering the remainder of the cost of a car (after part-ex etc). 2) Specifically, Vauxall's HP scheme. The APR 'seems' low (8.2%) compared to a loan (14.8%), but the Terms and Conditions do seem to restrict the pseudo-owner. Kris

I bought my Astra through Vauxhall's own HP scheme. Only had one problem. When I paid off the remainder (I traded it in for another car) they still continued to take the monthly payments out of my bank account. Having said that they were equally as quick to repay the overcharge when I pointed out the error of their ways. So generally I was happy. What terms and conditions are you specifically worried about ? Andy.

If you get a loan from the Bank to buy the car, and things turn nasty, you will keep the car a whole lot longer than if you buy it on HP. (Where it will be repossesed quickly). The car may have a big impact on you making money to get yourself out of trouble. Having said that, I went for the HP scheme (Nissan) cause of the reduced rate of interest. Why pay extra when you end up with the same thing at the end of the day. Dave D.

Because of the much lower APRs, I chose to go for HP. Now to go and pick it up! Thanks, Kris |
