2248.1 | BTCC - High Pose Value! | YUPPY::PATEMAN | Some Fantastic Place | Wed Apr 06 1994 11:24 | 22 |
| We were there for the meeting timing. The BTCC now rivals F1 as a draw
and the crowds on Monday were enormous considering the awful weather.
Tarquini won comfortably, easing off in the end, from John Cleland in a
Vauxhall and Winklehock in a BMW. Simoni was originally 3rd but got a
25 sec penalty for punting off Radisich and dropped to 11th. The Alfa's
were a class apart from the rest - the only thing that went wrong was
that Tarquini couldn't get the cork off the champagne!
It was quite amusing in the timing box as we had the BTCC comentator
and Ian Flux (sometime driver). Both were complaining that the Alfa
team were not really in the spirit of the BTCC with their highly
professional attitude and #4m budget. However, with the size of the
motorhomes, photo passes, paddock security, F1 style programmes etc
etc, TOCA and the BTCC clearly see *themselves* as very professional!
Sounded like double standards and sour grapes to me.
The Alfa 155's looked marvellous (as did their mechanics according to
my wife!) Their only competition looks to be the Mondeos. The Volvo
estates were downright dangerous!

| Paul,
Who won the classic saloon car race? A frozen solid 3 year old meant I
had to leave early.
BTW did you have any problems leaving?
Simon.

2248.3 | Camaro I think - best race of the day | YUPPY::PATEMAN | Some Fantastic Place | Wed Apr 06 1994 12:03 | 12 |
| Timekeepers don't notice such things! From memory it was one of the
Camaro's No 9. I was keying the numbers into the system as they passed
and you tend to lose track of who is running where!
By the time we left (about half an hour after the last race) the
traffic was thinning a bit. We just had to drive round half of
Hampshire courtesy of the police traffic control. We were staying in
Salisbury for the weekend (with Alain Menu and some of the Renault
team) and we indoors by 7. We were nice and warm in the timing box, you
spectators must have been mad!!

2248.4 | BBC Coverage | MUGGER::POWELL | | Mon Apr 11 1994 13:44 | 11 |

When do BBC show these races? I think this is some of the best
motorsport on tele but last year I only caught one or two
races because they seem to show them wherever they can fit them
into the schedules.
Anyone know if there is a fixed slot or do I have to
record the whole of grandstand every Saturday for
20 mins of racing?
Thanks G.P

| Keep an eye on the weekly Grandstand schedule but they normally show
them a week or after the event.
I agree its great racing and often overlook when they are shown.
These events are very well attended and I would have thought that there
was enough general interest to show the races live.

2248.8 | | WARNUT::ALLEN | It works better if you screw it in.. | Fri May 13 1994 12:13 | 6 |
| One of the reasons that TV doesn't like showing motor racing live is
that it upsets the TV schedules too often. You should be kind of
grateful for that, how many times have we seen people complain that
their VCR's ran out of time.......Of course all we now need to get is
the TV channels to guarantee that they will show the aformentioned race
when they say they will!
