| You need to get hold of an application form. I'm not sure
where you'd get one, but my first guess would be a GM/Vauxhall
dealer.

| Re: 2 back.
Run up big bill(s) on your current credit card(s)... Then only pay off
the minimum monthly amount for a few months....
You should then receive an application form from the GM Card people,
because at this point they realise that they can make big money out of
you on interest payments; part of the GM Card package is that you can
transfer outstanding sums from your 'old' credit cards.

| I currently have a GM visa card and did a few quick sums before I took
it on.
I reckon that if I put ALL my household purchases via the card + ALL
business expenses.
In 3 years I'll have about 1200.00 towards a holiday/goods.
Not bad eh!!
All I need to do is then take on a takeover Vauxhall for 1 - 2 months,
prove to GM that I have such a car (P11D)/chasis no:, then spend the
dosh on a nice holiday!

2242.14 | Maximize spending.... | WARNUT::THOMASA | Wow I,ve got a colour .... | Fri May 06 1994 13:00 | 25 |
| Hi all,
I have one of these GM cards and obviously it's in our interest to put
as much through the card as possible, as long as you pay up on time you won't
incur any interest charges, so if anyone has any novel ideas on may to "maximize
throughput", please post a reply.
So far obviously you can use it where-ever there's an electronic till
& for petrol & buisiness expenses etc...
but... the other day I was at the supermarket checkout when I was
offered the option of taking some "cashback" on my shopping bill, the idea being
that, say 20 pounds would be added to the total bill and you get the cash. This
could be a good idea, because IF it does just show up as a transaction on which
you get the 5%, it'll mean you can use this as a source of cash rather than your
banks cashpoint machine and get the 5% !
You can't just directly withdraw cash using your card because -
1. you get charged interest on the amount straight away
2. You don't get the 5% from a straight cash withdraw.
Now if I could just figure out how to get all my monthly direct debits &
Mortgage routed through the card !

| If this cashback thing works like as it does on my Switch card at
Sainsbury's, then the statement will reflect the cashback bit as a
separate transaction from whatever you bought.
In the case of Sainsbury's at Hedge End this has proved useful more
than useful.... On a few occasions I have been handed back my card and
receipts, but no cashback (even though it was requested). As the
cashback and purchase transactions were listed separately, this
provided the proof that I had asked for some cash back... which was
duely handed over.

| Please note that you DO NOT get rebate points on any 'cash' transaction
- I bought 1200 of travellers cheques and got no points!
However. I just went to a Vauxhall dealer and checked out the price of
an M-reg Corsa Swing with Sunroof/Radio Cass etc...
He quoted me 7000 on the road with no trade in (list 7500)... then I
told him about the GM card, vouchers etc that I was entitled to so he
took off the 250 from my Gm Card, 200 bonus GM voucher and 550 for the
"on the road" voucher...
making a new 1.2 Corsa Swing 6000.... with a 2500 deposit the monthly
payments were... 13.70 a month... with 4300 to pay at end (or hand
car back)....
assuming there'll be some equity in the car this is a LOT cheaper than
having a company car?? or is there some catch?
Anyway, I haven't signed up yet, cos I want to see if I can:
a) spot the catch
b) get an extra years warranty thrown in

| Does the 4300+2500+(13.70*36months?) included servicing, insurance,
road-tax etc? What is the quoted APR?
I do get the feeling that you would be better off paying more per
month to clear the loan off faster, as the interest on the remaining
4300 after the loan period will be a major factor in the costs - it
is one heck of a balloon payment!
But then again, i was never very good at numbers!

I have to confess that every time I see one of the new Corsa's I break
out into a smile if not laugh out loud because it looks SO ridiculous. If it is
any comfort to Corsa drivers, the Micra has the same effect upon me for the same
reason. No other car has ever had this effect upon me, except the small Mazda
of a year or two ago - the 123 was it(?) - I couldn't believe it when I saw the
one and only one that I have ever seen. I guffawed for weeks about that one!!!

| Hi
The 4300+$2500+(13.70*24 months) includes road-tax servicing and
insurance (Group 2 I was told) is not included. I hope to negotiate
inclusion of the extra years warranty.
I don't think you can pay more per month... the monthly figure includes
the interest on the 4300.
The only risk is that a 2-year old Corsa will be worth less than 4300
and I've done greater than the allowed miles (otherwise if it is worth
less I just hand it back!).
Haven't had time to go back to the garage since, but I'm now using my
GM card for everything just in case!

Julia, I've not heard of any problems from Company Car drivers. On the
personal front tho' there have been quite a few complaints made to GM
about the way the scheme works. It seems the discount to which you're
entitled is off a 'brand new' factory ordered car... most dealers
carry a stock of 'delivery mileage only' cars (which they've had to buy
to get their discounts) and they will sell you one of these cheaper than
a brand new one with GM/Visa discount, also there's no wait either.

I got mine okay, I rang the Voucher hotline number, who took a few
details and then sent me a form - I got my manager to sign this (GM
Card seem to want a Personnel type person to sign, but this would have
taken ages) and sent it off, my vouchers arrived a few days later.
Then I went to Comet and bought a telly !
