| I think you can only put a request in for your old car.
Look in VTX for info on how to do this.
Alternativly call up Hertz/PHH and see what they have available from
all of their leases. This is discussed elsewhere in this conference I
think.

Find out (by some means?) who has a Fleet car of the type you desire and
get them to buy it for you, is one way around the problem of only being able to
buy your own ex-Fleet car.
Beware, Hertz prices ain't cheap, either through Fleet or via Hertz!

This is NOT true. The driver of the car is the ONLY one who can get a
price but ANYONE can buy the car.

| You cannot buy your own ex-cocar from them, because they have an
agreement with DIGITAL not to allow this, but you can obtain from them a list
of the ex-fleet cars that they are currently selling. You wouldn't know the
history then, of course.
Royston, I think that your statement:
>>> This is NOT true. The driver of the car is the ONLY one who can get a
>>> price but ANYONE can buy the car.
isn't quite the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, whilst the
cheques might come from someone else, I think you'll find that the driver
would have to make the purchase arrangements. I am open to correction on this,
but I think that you'll find this is the case.

| isn't quite the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,
Malcolm,
Certainly in October of last year my comments were the whole truth.
My father was interested in buying my RS Fiesta for 3800 although he
backed out in the end because of the high insurance cost.
I checked with fleet and all they wanted was a cheque from someone
which could come at anytime up to and including the last day of the
lease. The _only_ restriction was that the driver has to request the
price.
I am open to correction on this if someone else has had a different
experience lately.

PS How is the diesel economy these days ?

| Sorry. I just reread Malcolm's comments in .10 and should add
that when the cheque is submitted the purchaser details are submitted
and the documents are sent directly to the new owner who is responsible
for the vehicle on the day a replacement lease car is supplied to the
driver. This is a bummer if there is a delay in delivery as you cannot
requote the purchase price even if the mileage increases significantly.
I have mentioned this before but is worth estimating the end of lease
mileage and them some when asking for a purchase price.

When I said that the driver would have to make the arrangements, then I
think that is true. Where the cheque comes from and whose name is signed on it
are not a problem. The same with the address to which the documents are sent
is the same. All I was saying is that the driver is the one who has to make
all the arrangements:
Obtain price;
See if end customer is interested at that price;
Obtain cheque from end customer;
Complete paperwork for arrangements to buy the car;
Forward cheque and paperwork to Fleet;
Inform end customer of delivery details etc.
Arrange collection details etc.
That means, in terms of what is needed for the end customer to get the
car, the driver does just about everything except pay. That is what I meant.
As far as fuel comsumption is concerned on the Xantia, I'me getting about
38.something quite consistantly. I had hoped for a little over 40 MPG, but it is
obviously not to be. I cruise in to work at about 3,000 to 3,400 RPM (80-ish)
and home again at 2,000 RPM (50-ish) on M4/A329(M) to the far part of Bracknell,
if that gives you an idea of the conditions for that fuel consumption. The BX,
which was only 1.7 litre TD and quite a lot lighter and smaller frontal area,
used to give a consistant 43 MPG under those conditions (the Xantia is 1.9 litre
TD).
