I would be interested in purhasing a PEUGEOT 405 Estate on completion
of its lease. Is there anyone with such a car that they do not wish to
buy themselves with a lease expiry Jan to Mar 1994?

2162.5Looking to buy a dieselCOMICS::RADBURNOK. Let's get dangerous....Mon Oct 18 1993 11:3019
    Hi,

I am looking to buy a diesel of some description (Fiesta or
Escort but other models considered) with a minimum capacity of 1.6.
I am exploring several options - buying ex-lease and buying from a
dealer/private ('F' Reg for insurance purposes).

Does anyone have an ex-lease car up for grabs or know of anyone
privately that is selling one. I have scoured the local rags but they
seem to be scarcer than rocking horse fertilizer. Apparantly there is a
number for Hertz where they will fax you list of ex-lease cars with
prices - anyone know the number?

Also, does anyone in Reading have any adverts of local dealers with
diesels? Numbers and prices would be appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance,
    Gary.

    Ian,

4,500 is a bit steep for my pocket I was looking more in the
3000-3500 range hence Fiestas and Escorts.

Discovered the yellow FreeAds paper. Looks quite good but have to pick
it up on Thursdays when it comes out as apparantly things shift fast in
    there.

2162.10Citren BX TZD Turbo, with Air Conditioning, VSL Remote Alarm and Mud Flaps?CMOTEC::POWELLNostalgia isn't what it used to be, is it?Tue Oct 26 1993 12:5423
Mine will be Ex-Lease towards the end of next month (November) when my
Xantia VSX Turbo Diesel is delivered.

It has just done 3,318 miles in 16 days down to the Algarve and back with
no trouble, cruising at 3,500 RPM (88MPH) for hours on end. Haven't worked out
the fuel consumption yet.

Arrived home 07:45 Sunday, yesterday it wouldn't start - it is in
Concorde Garage in Wokingham being fixed at the moment. Looks like a Glowplug
AND an air-in-fuel system (Can't bleed it out) set of problems.

If anyone is interested, Hertz were asking for 5975.00 (plus 40.00 for
DIGITAL) about six weeks ago, when the milage was 42,XXX. It is now 46,350 ish,
with a month to go, so a requote might be in order.

Was thinking that I might find out to which Car Auction the car will go
when Hertz take it back, 'cos I don't think it will fetch anything like five
grand, much less the six they are asking for it via DIGITAL! Apparently, Hertz
will tell you which Auction if you ask, as I no longer have any interest in
buying the car (but interested in what it fetches), I shan't ask unless someone
else is interested.

Just for info Hertz will not requote even if the mileage has
    significantly increased.

If you ask for a quote I would advise that you give the anticipated
end of lease mileage and not the current mileage of the car.

2162.12Thanks for that Royston.CMOTEC::POWELLNostalgia isn't what it used to be, is it?Wed Oct 27 1993 13:154
Be carefull on the mileage that you quote, as Hertz have the service records,
which show the mileage at the last time you visited a garage etc.!!!

2162.13Better the price you know.....TOMMII::RDAVIESAmateur ExpertWed Nov 03 1993 12:509
Working out the value of my car whn I bought it I came to the conclusion that
it was no bargain basement, nor was it showroom price, but pitched reasonably
in between.

Diesels, especially Citroen/Pug turbo's are in demand now more than ever, so
the price you've been quoted I believe is good I wouldn't be surprised if it
exceeded this at auction.

The McWegg has now passed the list to me.

The no. on the letter is 081 847 2229 ' Hertz Car Sales.

The list is titled ' Discount price list - vehicles 4mths to 4yrs in
    age '.

They are mostly high mileage (as you might expect) and don't look
very much like bargains but it does say that you get a 1yr AA premier
    warranty.

If you want any more prices posted here let me know what you are
interested in (they are mainly Ford and Vauxhalls).

I'm not surprised. The 205 TD is extremely hard to find, which explains
the price. What sort of prices are we talking about for the 405s then?
TD versions only, saloon or estate. I shouldn't be surprised to see
them only slightly more expensive that the 205s

    Just for a laugh.......

    PHH quoted 9,500 for
Volvo 850 GLT auto (cruise added after del.)
@40,000 lease up on 1st August. (3 years birthday)

Before anyone jumps, this car has a history of bits being replaced (one
of the first 850's into UK in 92). Suffice to say after buying the 340
on release in NL and this in the U.K. I'll never touch another
"tractor" until it's been on the market for 10 years.
I have some "luxury" blue mats up for b.r.o. (I purchased them
privately to replace the rubber crud, in the delusions of maybe
    keeping the car.....)

Is there stil a list available from the leasing company similar to the

Hertz dispose of their own vehicles in Isleworth, Middx.

PHH send their cars to CMA in Leeds 0113 828686.

    send to ICA in Bristol.
